Magic plant - guess, what it is.

Roman soldiers used to take baths with its infusions before battles, because they believed, it would give them courage.

Egyptians used it for embalming. Medieval doctors filled their masks with it during plague epidemics, as they believed it clears inhaled air. For the same purpose it was used in churches together with (frank)incense (lovely odour). It was the herb No 1 on the list of medieval sacred magic plants. Oddfellows in Wales traditionally take this herb with them to funerals of their members. It is in coat of arms of the Drummonds.
In Slovakia it was used as infusion in case of gastrointestinal problems, menstruation problems, loss of apetite, depression, sore throat, cough, flu, asthma and in case of fatigue.
And my favourite plant for winter tea.
Do you know it?

Shirley tulip@you uncovered my weak point in this description! :)) You are right, lavender was also taken internally for treatment of indigestion, headaches and sore throats, it was also used by Egyptians in embalming, by Greeks and Romans in baths (that´s why the name lavender, lavatere). Roman soldiers really took lavender with them to dress war wounds. Lavender was strewn on the floor to sweeten the air, fumigate sick rooms and as incense for religious ceremonies. Absolutely correct about lavender, Shirley. But on the picture there is different herb.

Congratulation.
Those who guessed oregano are close to my heart, as it is sometimes hard to distinguish, especially just from the photo.
Thank you to all of you :))
