AA Breakdown Cover, how I got a discount :-)

I have just renewed my AA Breakdown cover. I have been with them for 11 years. When my notice came through, I thought the Premium was high. £251.71 for both me and hubby. To be honest I think every year it’s a bit high, so every year I phone them and tell them that. That I’m happy with the cover just not the price and every year with no argument from them they give me a discount. This next years cover is now £188.79! They even said that it is on my records that I do this every year so when the following years premium is due that they will just send me the discounted price. The telephone number is a 0800 so free so it just cost me a bit of time and saved me quite a bit. Hope this can be of help to any of you or maybe you already do it. Jen

They also give discounts for some jobs but you have to ask for them. I used to get one for working for the NHS and my daughter get one as her partner works for the post office. A few years ago, my brothers and sisters and I went to Leeds castle. One of my sisters asked if there give a discount to AA members and there was so its always worth while asking when going to any of the stately houses and gardens.

I was stopped by an AA sales rep in the supermarket and asked me if I was a member, which I am, and said to him I think it might be the last year as they charged more and more each year, he lol and said cancel it when it is up for renewal and re-join on line you will find it is a lot cheaper, blooming heck I said and will look at it next year when it is due. He did say do not tell them who you spoke to though. lol. Cheeky beggars aren't they! just increase and increase and do not offer discounts to regular customers, the same for lots of other companies too.

That is still way too high Jen. Did you not see it on the TV last week that the AA are charging existing customers way too much?
I stopped using the AA 5 years ago after being with them 25 years when it became so costly and for the last 5 years I have had RAC breakdown cover through my household insurance company for my husband and I, full cover costs£65 per year

Oliveoil, my daughter last year phoned then said I can get it cheaper by doing what you said so whats stopping me. They gave her the internet price. Just goes to shop how they are trying it on.

wow Drc726, that is a lot cheaper. Due to our business, there is only one insurance company that will insure us, NFU. As far as I know they don't have any offers like that but will check with hubby as he does the house and business insurance. But I will look into RAC next year. I did look at greenflag last year but i got AA to match greenflag price so stayed with them Thank you.
