Is there such a thing as plant addict? I just cannot resist wanting to have new plants in my garden. I know that my garden is too small for all the plants I wish to have. But I keep getting plants, finding spaces in between the existing plants for the new ones. Only yesterday I saw some white comfrey. I had to get a cutting to add to the purple one I’ve already got in plentiful in the garden. Do other peopel have similar desires for plants? I would like to know.

Never mind plant stores, I visit nurseries and buy from several on-line sellars, I just can't stop myself.

I'm the same, but can never make my mind up. Really when you think about it we are like kids in a candy store.

Definitely. Can't stop myself, I have to have something if I go anywhere near a GC or nursery. Its obligatory.

Years ago if we visited anywhere new I always bought something as a memento, I still treat myself wherever I go but its always something for my garden now and a visit to a GC is always a moneyspending outing, I can always find a space somewhere.......

Thank goodness it isn't just me then, I love plants and GC and online GC there is probably a help line somewhere but please don't let me have it, I don't mind being addicted, I would not mind sitting in a circle though and discussing my obsession with you all, that would be quite good fun me thinks. After all it beats any other obsession I know of. Just keep on gardening there and enjoy it while you can. Ladybug you are not really addicted if you can pass a store with plants, I agree Annewrnr, I cannot make my mind up but the garden is becoming full also so soon will have to be more restrictive in my purchasing, why stop Cinderella we need our weekly, sometimes daily fix. lol. I am not giving it up NO NO NO NO I am not going to give up my plant buying, it is too much fun and seeing everything growing and thriving is a MUST. Happy obsession everyone.

I suspect that some of us have to use the shoe-horn instead of a trowel, there's a little 'Emelda Marcos' in all of us Lol.

i don't know if "addict" is the right word, but I think "obsessed", as I am, would be a better description. I pretty much have a similar problem, just want to grow anything that I can. Problem is my "garden" is all potted on my porch, so that kind of limits me, sometimes I may be eating a fruit, (living in China the past few years I've come across fruit that I never had in the U.S.) - after eating it I plant the pit or seed just to see what happens and sure enough they sprout. My wife calls it "obsessed, but I just call it curious. Most of these sprouts that come up from the fruit seeds never amount to anything because most are trees and trying to grow a tree in an 8" pot usually doesn't work. I did have great luck with some local chili peppers, I planted the seeds and sure enough - now I have about 5 chili pepper plants with more peppers that we can use...same with some fennel seeds I got at the market .....ahhahah that showed my wife a good result of my obsession, we both love chilis and now we can just go on the porch and pick them as we need, my wife says she has never tasted such a "clean, fresh" chili pepper before. So plant on "plant addict" but be kinder to yourself and say you're obsessed or curious about growing plants and enjoy........ franco3588

Oh sorry am I next? They say I have to stand up and introduce myself first.
Hi I'm Angie and I'm a plantaholic too.

Yes, maybe one day there will be a 12 step program for people addicted to plants.
Mmmmm that might have the makings of a movie or sitcom or something like that.

Seriously the best relationship I've ever had, is with plants ................Maybe kids too. :-)

Unfortunately, no amount of rehab could ever cure my addiction lol!!

LOL!! Lots of responses to this question eh!!

There are 5 GC's within a 10 mile radius of my home and I am on first name terms with all of the managers and owners! I probably should have shares!! Would love to own my own nursery, a little piece of heaven on earth. I do keep looking out for suitable spots but land is so expensive..........

But isn't it inspiring to see the passion of a person in love with trees, shrubs, flowers and their veggie gardens. Maybe we should form a group called KODAP,
keep on digging and planting...............

Yep can relate Heron, it used to be shoes for me, now its a plant in a welly that does it for me!!!! lol

Now that I know I'm not the only one obsessed with plants, here's my dilemma. I often find myself wondering if I'm breaking some rule/law when I take cutting and seeds from the wild when I'm out for walks. For example, last weekend I was in a small village. I came across some comfrey that has white flowers. I have comfrey with purple flowers. So, I discretely took a little clump of the white comfrey. I hope it will bear white flowers next to the purple ones next year. But the point it I felt a tinge of guilt. I try and justify my action by thinking that I'm propagating the plants albeit in my garden.
