Thanks Jacque, just had a look can't understand why they keep saying starlings are down 79%, i get loads of them in my garden through the winter months, not as many now as a lot of them have gone back to europe.

Thanks for reminder Jacque , will take a look. Its the volume of them Clarice thats dropped a bit like the house sparrow - still estimate around 5 million sparrows but this has dropped from 15 million in the 1960s so although not scarce its such a decline that makes them on red list .

I looked earlier today Jacque. Good to see the the long tailed tit has got to the top ten. It's such a shame that birds that were, once so common are declining at such a catastrophic rate. Man has, once again, left his mark.

Its a Good thing though Toto That Man has started to Notice / Look & do something about it :( Better late then never !!!! If only it was`nt later but Sooner?

Such a shame that man seems to think that the planet is his and his alone and that everything else is here solely for his convenience. Even as recently as when I was trying to rehome my fish, I received comments like, "it's only a fish, why are you bothered where it goes"?
I'm sorry to have to admit it but I don't believe that we will ever change some peoples attitudes.

Agree Toto....many people are totally oblivious to the beauty and wonder of nature.A friend of ours takes in and nurses injured wildlife, and one day someone brought her a nest of ten baby fieldmice..still naked and blind. This person had found them in her shed and didnt want them there but didnt want to kill them. Our friend fed them with a pipette every two hours for days...through the nights, taking them in a box to the bedroom ! She only lost one !! Someone asked her why she bothered.."theyre only mice ".Her reply ? " Because they are alive " .........

Jacque, what a brilliant idea to include our feathered friend on this site!
Mind you have a better camera than I, zooming no good on a camera phone!!
The numbers are certainly down for some species...

Thanks Jacque, got an email at the beginning of the week with the results - even the rspb acknowledged the weather on the day was awful!

BB: Your friend is an angel.
Toto: Agree with you totally.

Aye Dawn this all done in a small terraced house - the bathroom even converted to take extra animals ..dont ask lol She ran out of space for rescued sea birds and asked Jane to look after a gull ..not a problem says Jane I ll put it in the spare bedroom Ray has just decorated !

Wish Id known I would have pebble dashed it - the gull sure did !

Think that this gets us all invoved in taking an interest in birds but the findings can be misleading ...no Siskins on the day of birdwatch but now garden alive with them official figures will show quite a decline , personally think this should be done over longer period .

That's amazing BB! But I can only imagine the mess the gull made, yikes, bet you were happy, lol. I trust the gull is now leading a happy life ...

Aye Dawn he lives over the local takeaway waiting for chips kebabs and pizzas - fish ? too much like hard work.

This high fat diet .. gulls set to become the new wood pigeon lose the power of flight if this continues .
