Busy in the garden

I just thought you might like to see what I’ve been upto in the last couple of days.
I’ve invented a rain machine,
AND planted Mrs. Digs Flowers.
I thought I might show you the hardest bit first, Mrs. Digs flowery things LOL
These are…..hold on while I read the labels.

Pieris, Forest Flame and Impatiens Double, Feista ole cherry

Now for the easy bit, I was sitting last night thinking of a problem that has bewitched mankind for thousands of years. Native American Indians danced for it, Australians painted pictures to encourage it (I think) and even as far back as the neandertals it has played a vital role in mans development, and last night I solved it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I INVENTED A RAIN MACHINE and I would like to let everyone here on GoY be the first to see it.

so without more ado,

I give to you,

The soon to be patented,

the most important invention of the 21st century.

The
Ian Digs Rain Machine.

Its great isn’t it?, do you think it will make me my fortune?

Actually its my hose trigger stuffed into the end of some tent/gazebo type poles so I don’t have to stand and hold it for ages when I’m not at my best.

I hope you’ll forgive my little bit of build up but I thought it might be fun.
It stands so high so it covers more area at a time and acts more like rain.

H & K’s to all………….Ian

29 Jun, 2009

Dont worry about the patent Mobee, all GoYers are welcome to steal it LOL

30 Jun, 2009

Ian, i too was expecting to read on and see a pic of you with a feathered headress doing a raindance !!!!!!

Great invention by the way :)

Also .... Mrs. Ds Pieris plant needs to be planted in a certain type of soil/compost.
It won't really thrive unless it's in Ericaceous soil/compost, this is different to the usual type and is used for these 'acid loving' plants ..... just a thought, didn't mean to sound bumptious !

30 Jun, 2009

Fantastic Ian! I tried something similar a few weeks ago and temporarily fixed the hose to one corner of my whirly washing line. It worked beautifully and I continued weeding while the "robot" watered the nearby flower bed. Then the wind blew ..........! Round it went and I got a nasty wet surprise and had to go and change my trousers! Your idea is mnuch better!

30 Jun, 2009

Your Mini Shower would be perfect 4 My Summer Ian :D she loves water sprayed on her :)

30 Jun, 2009

Thanks Ian wondered where the rain as come from this morning, it must have a good spray as its watering my garden today & filling my water butts up,could do with it for another hour up here if you dont mind leaving it on.

30 Jun, 2009

Louise you could never be bumptious, Thanks to a PM from Terratoonie I now know what Ericaceous means. When I said I had no idea about growing flowers I meant NO idea.
If it wasn't for the kind comments from all the GoY's that plant would be dead in a while and I would be filling up the questions section.

Oh dear, Nariz another funny thought has just entered my head. You wasn't R send up at the time were you?
Oh you were weren't you, tell me you were.....Mrs. D. thinks I'm having another 'turn' ....can't.... stop .....laughing....can't ...breath...OMG

(10 mins later)
Sorry Nariz, you know what I'm like with my mental imagery

Jacque you and your lovely Summer are welcome to use my rain machine any time you like.

Thanks for the lovely comments. H & K's.........Ian

Hello Clarice... please send my garden some of that rain...:o)

Hi Ian ~
As you know, we were exchanging 'ericaceous' p. messages late last night, so I've been back to read them to make sure I made sense and gave you the right advice.... my brain frequently switches off about 8 pm... Lol...
and, surprisingly, yes, all the info. I sent you will help with the Pieris..... and ericaceous is the right compost for other acid loving plants such as rhododendrons and azaleas.

Good luck with your Pieris. Now that you have all the info. I hope you'll treat us to a new photo. Probably best to plant it in a pot on its own... Put some pretty pebbles over the soil at the top of the pot to help retain moisture...

30 Jun, 2009

Thanks TT We're off to the Garden Centre on Wednesday, do you think it will survive till then or should I be more worried ?

Other GoYers Please note, ALL help is taken at face value and no one will be upset or put out at you for offering your knowledge/experience.
I do want to try flowers but I will be learning from the begining, so nice easy small words spoken softly and slowly will be much apreciated.

Thanks again all H & K's...........Ian & Mrs. Digs (surprisingly)

30 Jun, 2009

Lol ... small words coming up...

yes .. it will be okay....keep the pieris in shade for now, and keep the soil damp with rain water till Weds...

Hello Mrs Digs, too :o)

30 Jun, 2009

LOL..........What a great idea Ian.........you could stand underneath it when you get to hot.... in the heatwave we are meant to be having........ watering does take a while doesnt it..... i suffer with lung and muscle problems... so sometimes find it hard...... especially as i have so many pots to water......

30 Jun, 2009

Cheers TT LOL

Hi Holly, are you not having this heatwave then, we're all stripped down to the essentials and huffing and puffing like old steam trains here. LOL

My joint probs. make it essential to find short cuts and labour saving devices too. I'll try to show you some more one day, but don't hold your breath for them, ask TT she knows lol.

30 Jun, 2009

30 Jun, 2009
