Back on line and garden update.

Well we’ve been off line (due to the house move) for ten days and it felt like I’d had my arm amputated. I seriously didn’t realise how much I relied on it, not just for talking to my lovely friends here on GoY but for every day things like banking, paying bills and soooo many other things.

Well that’s that moan out of the way I can concentrate on my garden update!

This is what it looked like when I started

My electric mower made a valiant attempt but unfortunately it passed away in a puff of smoke and a funny whine.

Well not one to be beaten by a few nettles and ‘docks’ I brought in the big guns …..

I bought a ride on mower from EBay!

Enter THE BEAST

Plenty of help from my lovely ladies!

I got my shed up,

Dug a trench ……..

and filled it in again with plenty of chicken pooh pellets and a row of french climbing beans!

This area was rough grass and nettles …….

So a good short back and sides and copious amounts of weed membrane with weed killer around the edges should leave it clear for the spring!

Not bad for a weeks work ………….. Oh and we moved house as well! Lol

Hi Ian not seen you for such a long time. The garden looks a bit of a challenge but I know you are up to the task along with your 2 girls. Goodness beans in already you are certainly showing the garden who is boss. The beast looks a serious piece of Kit so go steady on it LOL Hope you all enjoy your new home and I am truly envious of your big garden.

crikey Ian, I think that mower is as old as Derek. Probably built like a tank and never broke down. Wise buy I reckon. Well done so far.

Goodness, it didn't take you long to get stuck in. don't wear yourself (and your little helpers) out. Take it easy, a nice cup of coffee between jobs etc. Good luck to all of you in your new home. Enjoy :)

Ian my god you have been very busy In a short space of time. Please dont over do it. What a big space you have. Im sure all your hard work will pay off very shortly. Best of luck with it all

Well thank you all for your lovely comments and your concerns. I do take plenty of breaks between (and during) the many jobs we're getting done. Carol says the kettle will need a holiday soon! Lol.

Sue I had the beans ready to go into my allotment so I put them in here instead.

Jason (Derek's friend) They don't build them like they used to you know, us oldies still have what it takes to get the job done! Lol

Holly, we have sort of settled in. We still have plenty of boxes to explore! Lol. Some of them haven't been opened since the last time we moved (I can't believe it was five years ago). Unfortunately we didn't have the time to move any plants and Carol was devestated to lose her precious Hibiscusisisisis

Gee, as I say I'm having many cups of Carol's infamous coffee and they can keep me going for hours!

Great, I have developed a deep love of creating gardens in the last couple of years so I'm going to be in my element for some time to come yet!

WOW Ian, you've certainly cracked on! A sit on mower is a good idea when you have a large area, will save you time and energy. Moving house is a task and a half, glad it's gone OK. Take care and DON'T overdo it!!! x

That's brilliant news Ian, I've only just cleared our boxes and we've only been here a fortnight. It's a lovely feeling when you see the last box disappear. You also have a lovely big garden same here.....

Hope you feel fit enough to tackle heavy work, if not, get the girls to do it. A good shed always helps to keep tools in. Does the ride-on go through the door, best of luck, we will be interested in your progress.

Great first week there Ian!

Seems like you're back to your old self and doing loads to get the garden looking good.

Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing the progress.....

nice to hear all about your new garden. Im so jealous of all that space, but not all the work!! :0))

2 Jun, 2010

Morning all.

Thank you all again for your lovely comments.

Potty, I won't have so much grass once I can get my plans into action but I paid less for it than I would have done for a new electric hover jobbie and to be honest it will save me hours of pushing.

Hi Stripes and congratulations on your move. I'm impressed that you have got rid of all your boxes after only two weeks! Lol

Doctorbob, my poor shed is feeling a little under the weather and has a distinct liste. I have had to shore it up with a 2 x 2 against the fence post. It's got doubles doors so "The Beast" goes in quite easily.

Thanks Carol. xx

San, the garden is a bit of relaxation after all the stress of the last couple of weeks and it's always a pleasure to get out there and whiz around on my new toy. (It's a man thing! Lol)

SBG, Holly is over the moon with the size of the garden and can't wait to get her toys set up! You're right of course, I'm having a great time planning and slowly but surely sorting the place out.

OB, cheers mate and I do feel a lot better now.

Thanks Suey xx

Mageth, I think that's the pay off for having lots of space, it comes with lots of problems but weeds can be tamed and uneven, lumpy lawns can be levelled.

Power to you, Ian, cracking on there - I'm not going to echo the "take it steady" comments - I know you're like me, frequent pit stops for a nicotine and coffee hit, though in my case its tea and nicotine ... Good to see you back on line.

2 Jun, 2010

Thanks Bamboo, I have just come in for a caffeine/nicotine pitstop now. Lol

2 Jun, 2010

lol ian wouldnt mind a go on your new motor either hahah

2 Jun, 2010

You are welcome any time San! Lol

lol ian ;o))

Great to see how you are making such a lot of progress in so short a time! Good to see how quickly you've got that piece of garden under "wraps". By the end of the winter you should have a nice piece of land to work on & turn into an "allotment" at home!

3 Jun, 2010

I'm slowly working my way back towards the house and by winter I would like the whole side to be covered. I've got a few projects lined up for this summer, both to make access easier and to create some beds for the flowery things! Lol

you have been sooo busy ian....i love your mower...

7 Jun, 2010

Thanks Sandra. Between you and I............... So do I Lol

Just seen this blog and saw you had moved house so did a quick catch up on your other blogs.
Congrats with finally getting the new place.
The garden looks a mammoth task but I know you love a challenge and will enjoy it.
Here's to a good summer so you can be outside creating your new gardern

7 Jun, 2010

Cheers Pip, it's turning into a bigger job everyday!

7 Jun, 2010

Wow Ian, that does look a challenge but I'm sure you'll rise to the occasion! At least you can create something from scratch that you can call your own, and that will give you a lot of satisfaction. Good luck!

7 Jun, 2010

Hi Jan and thanks. We have ideas spilling out faster than we can write them down! Lol

7 Jun, 2010

Sounds like a theme for another blog!

7 Jun, 2010

Don't encourage me Jan, my fingers are sore from pounding the keys already today! (I've just finished another update Lol)

7 Jun, 2010

Shame - I was hoping to pinch a couple of your ideas, save my brain. I'm off to look for your update. You work very hard Ian, puts me to shame, I was put off today by the light drizzle.

7 Jun, 2010

I enjoy working Jan. It's only the last year or so that I haven't been able to and my condition is always worst during cold weather so this time of year I like to get stuck in!
