New Greenhouse (part 2)

I didn’t show you the inside of my new greenhouse, didn’t I …
The walls need painting but that will have to wait for better weather so that I can put the plants outside while I’m doing it.

I tidied and rearranged the plants today and here they are, starting behind the door and working around to the right (clockwise) :-

The pipe and wire (above) carry water and power down to the old garage. I know they’re ugly but there doesn’t seem to be any way of camouflaging them.

I’ve put some solar lights in the greenhouse and when they come on they are very irridescent and pretty :)

The tall Trichocereus (above) died back a bit last year, I don’t know why, but I’m pleased to see it sprouting new branches :)

Outside the window in the next photo you can see a mess – it’s an old perspex shelter where I used to do potting etc, and is full of rubbish since the building work was going on.
It will be cleared and demolished sometime in the summer, so that the sun can shine into the greenhouse.

That’s the end of the tour :)

So many cacti Hywel and looking very snug in your new greenhouse, you must be very pleased with it. Your aeoniums looking nice and healthy too. I lost mine in the very low temps even.though they were bubblewrapped in the bottom of the greenhouse. I've 3 stems left that I'll cut back and then repot into much smaller ones...

Oh My Goodness !!!!!...
I always knew you had a lot Hywel now you have them all in the new g'house there are loads more than I ever dreamt, I'd be like a kid in a toy or sweetshop seeing a display like that, they are all so healthy looking...How on earth do you water them and do you use drip trays on the floor?? I do like the idea of having solar lights in there, bet it looks amazing in the evenings..

Thank you all :)

I just go around them with a watering can Sue. It's easier now they are all together. Sometimes I water just one section, and then another section later or tomorrow - since they are xerophytes it doesn't matter if I can't get around them all on the same day. They haven't had any water through the winter.

WOW! What a collection you have, Hywel! 😃 Like everybody else has commented I didn't know just how many you had! It'll take you at least a week to move everything out & then back in after you have painted the walls! No wonder you say you will wait for warmer weather to come around before doing it!

Just yesterday I got a bag of Cacti & Succulent compost & our granddaughter helped me repot the 6 Cacti I have.

I've just started watering mine Hywel, I am always worried when I start to do that as its so easy to give them too much, I would hate to get them this far and then kill them with kindness, something I learnt the hard way, the ones I had in the house are now back in the greenhouse, repotted two very large cacti yesterday, the tops had been caught during the winter so I got the dying pieces out before it spread, my fingers did not like that job, even though I was wearing strong gloves the beggars still got me., I haven't watered those as I felt the new compost was damp enough for them......
