New greenhouse (Part 1)

In my garden I had an old shed which had become rotten and was full of junk, so I decided to get rid of it and the junk, and have a greenhouse in its place.

Shed gone, greenhouse with nice new concrete floor being built :-

Frame for roof in place :-

Roof on – it is a single twin wall polycarbonate sheet, so no joins and therefore no chance of leakages :-

Windows and door now in …
They are double glazed. The builder looked around and said these double glazed windows were actually cheaper than single glazed ones, and they match the doors and windows in my new kitchen extension …

You’ll have to excuse all the stuff lying about, it’s from the old shed and I’m getting rid/tidying it gradually.

The walls will be rendered in the spring. You can’t do things like that in the winter.

In my next blog I’ll show you inside
(It’s full of cacti !)

A great use of space, Hywel! No doubt you will be very happy pottering around in there - especially when it's cold & wet outside in the garden! 👍😀

Goodness, that's much better than the old shed and a wonderful area for your succulent collection. It looks far more substantial than the usual greenhouse. I like the matching double glazing, too.

Well it seems a long time since you planned it - great to see its all finished and full of cacti or at least potentially full of cacti. It fits in that corner perfectly and is a fantas ic match for the house - it looks now as though it was planned and built at the same time. Beryl would have been o proud of you!

A lovely, solid structure Hywel. It is so very smart and looks as if it was always meant to be there!

Looking forward to seeing the inside too!

Love what you have done, so in keeping with the rest of the back of your house. What a special place for your cacti.

Great job done Hywel. Of all the bits and pieces from the old shed I see one thing that will probably stay...the can of WD-40.

Hywel, you must be so pleased with it, I certainly would be! By the way, is that where your kiln used to live, or am I thinking of somewhere else?

Hi Shirley, my pottery equipment started off in the wooden shed many years ago, but then I moved it to the old garage. I think that's where you'd remember it.
Thanks for reading my blog :)

Yes, that's where I was thinking of! Your plants will appreciate the new greenhouse, especially with the temps. set to be very low overnight next week. Brrr!!
