My Aquilegias have been beautiful this year again :)
I let them seed themselves wherever they like, and they look natural that way …

Here are a few photos of them – some taken in the sunshine, and some taken in the rain :)

You can see I haven’t got a very manicured garden !
That’s how I like it – it’s easier to look after :)

Bella thinks my stone (concrete !) alpine trough is for her to relax on :D

Good job there isn’t much in it at the moment :o)

haha, sorry, your cat makes me laugh!
You are right, they are beautiful. You obviously have the perfect conditions to grow them. The pink double ones must be my fav, they are stunningly delicate and pretty

Lovely Hywel, I like the colour of picture number six especially.

Kind of you to say so ... thanks :o))

They look lovely Hywel.... :))

Wow, you have so many! They look lovely! I'm hoping mine will spread out a bit too for next year. At the moment there are not very many of them. I'm hoping that will help them stay upright too, if there are lots together. They're in a fairly sheltered spot but I think they're just top heavy and all seem to be falling over. :(

I'm hoping to get an un-manicured look too, full of happy accidents.

Those are absolutely beautiful, Bella is just as beautiful too!

Your garden is a delight to see Hywel......and your granny's bonnets...

I like them Hywel and also have lots in flower, still waiting and hoping to see that one you sent me a few years ago, not too late as some are not in flower yet, I allow them free reign in most areas and always scatter plenty of the seedheads when they have finished flowering ready for the next year, I especially like the fact that you never really know what colour they're going to be so get some nice surprises, lol....
Lovely pics and plenty of colour, seems you've lost your alpine trough, Bella fits in there perfectly and looks very content ......

beautiful flowers in a gorgeous garden. I love the casual approach, I employ it myself :o)

They do produce such a show don't they? well captured Hywel.

What wonderful display your Aquilegas have put on for you a lovely cottage garden style , I love it Hywel;0)

I love your garden Hywel. I love the free and easy casual approach. I have not seen a dark pink one like those in Photo 6. It is beautiful. I think the blue aquilegias are the best blue flowers we can have. Thank you for sharing.

Don't they look wonderful! I particularly like the ones by the old chimney pot. I think just letting them seed about is the best way. Yesterday, I bought a lovely new one in coral and lemon of which I will post a picture later - after I've taken the photo! Think it's supposed to be a good day today, so hoping to get lots done in the garden here, and at Mum's.

The aquilegias are beautiful Hywel. Did you see the ones on Gardener's World last night?

Manicures are for nails - and not gardeners' ones!

Such lovely colours - mine all seem to end up being magenta/purple, even though I have introduced two other colours. I love wildish gardens and never aim for neatness. My neighbours think I'm mad because I have long grass and not a proper lawn. Much easier for a lazy person and better for insects. Yours is beautiful. wonderful for your gorgeous pussy too.

Thanks for all you comments :))

I didn't see Gardener's world Melchisedec. We don't usually get it on a Friday here.

They are beautiful and your garden looks lovely. I only seem to have the blue ones this year and many have been flattened by the rain and wind. I love that deep pink one of yours:-)

Thank you :) I've had to get rid of lots this year, because they are choking the other plants ...
I hope you get some different colours next year - do you let them spread ?

1 Jun, 2014

Yes, I let them do what they want ....all my posh named aquilegias which I have bought have vanished, but these 'bird gift' ones keep coming I'm glad to say:-)

Not much in it? I hope Bella didn't hear you say that! Though she isn't very good at looking like an alpine...
I don't know how people get gardens to look like yours Hywel, always full and always lovely. I have one great bed at the present and the rest are still thinking about it. You've got a great selection or aquiligias. I've only got mostly blue ones plus one very dark double red one. perhaps I'll get a nice cross with that one before too long.
Send me a PM when you're ready to pop over.
Sue

I have bought lovely Aquilegias in the past too and hoped they would persist, alas they vanish, and the blue and pink ones are there to greet me the next time round! I think the secret is in the soil or is it greener than green fingers Hywel?

2 Jun, 2014

Perhaps the answer lies in the soil, Dorjac! I only seem to have the pale pink and white ones. Lovely as they are, I would love a deep pink - sigh - ;-0
