More Rain

Well the water we had was…was….starting to receed…but in 3 days we have had another 5 inches of rain…with almost 2 more days of rain expected (they are predicting 2 1/2 – 3 in more)

Already roads, bridges, whole towns even are closed due to flooding. And in many areas the dunes have been washed out to sea!

The wind has been pretty heavy duty also, but that is all to be expected as Hurricane Ida blows herself out and dumps here!

Do wellies come thigh high? and do they make sets of them for dogs???? I think it might be smart to order a few if they do…..lol

Just a pic from last year at Ocean City, Maryland the day after Hurricane Hannah blew through…That one didn’t do this level of damage to the beaches…as you can see

(the seagull is 15 feet closer to me than the waves are breaking, so does not give a proper size reference to the waves)

Well the cat face above DID have ears...I swear it! lol

LOL
I hope you don't get too much damage Hw.
=^..^=

:-)))))

You can get thigh high wellies HW. Fishermen use them over here and they're called 'waders' I think ! Hurricanes are an amazing force of nature aren't they ? Even when they're dying off, they can still cause so much damage. Hope Ida blows out soon and the sun comes back ! :~)

My sister lived in the Cayman Islands and she experienced a very bad hurricane whilst she was there, they're dreadful, awful things when at their worst :-(((((

13 Nov, 2009

So true...but also so exciting to be in the middle of one as it rages! The energy is astounding. You probably think me nuts, but I love a good storm! Thunderstorms are my favorite...lol

=^..^= Will let you know if we get anything more than more standing water here...the beaches are what are being hurt the worst

13 Nov, 2009

Blimey !
My sister would disagree !
She expereinced the worst category - i think that's a Cat 5 - and she was terrified !

13 Nov, 2009

Thunderstorms ... oh yes HW ! Was on holiday recently and there was the most amazing thunder/electrical storm ! No rain, but the most fantastic lightening show I've even seen !! They do say that the 'eye' of the hurricane is very calm though. Is that the case do you know ? :~)

13 Nov, 2009

Oh yes Sue the eye is calm as a normal beautiful day...but look around and the storm is still there on all sides...one must run for it when the wind begins to pick back up!

Louis...I too have been through Cat 5's before...they are frightening, but also exhilerating when you survive ...esp when you realize how wonderful it is to be alive, truly alive!

The one we are dealing with now isn't even a hurricane anymore...has been over land too long and lost the worst of it's punch, but we still have all the rain to live through....

=^..^=

Wow ! Adrenaline city or what ? I can't begin to imagine it .......

13 Nov, 2009

Must be pretty scary for you.

13 Nov, 2009

Wow, yes your dogs need 4 wellies each...
and you would be drier in waders or a wet-suit....!
I hope everyone stays safe....

13 Nov, 2009

Hope you keep safe from the floods and winds........its bucketing down here today............

13 Nov, 2009

Hope everyone keeps safe thinking of you.

13 Nov, 2009

A bit scary, I think! We're expecting gales and torrential rain tomorrow - it's just rain today. Wet, but not bucketsful.

13 Nov, 2009

Compared to Ida, I think the 'cupfuls' that we're getting are nothing Spritz ! lol :~)

13 Nov, 2009

Hope everything settles soon, HW....there's a power to water that really scares me....specially when there's just too much of the blasted stuff!

You can get all-in-one waders, that are a combination of thigh highs and dungarees, but all made of rubber. Sounds positively kinky. I'll just shut up now, before I get flagged, shall I????

I've got to get a pair so I can wade into the drainage ditch and clear it out before next spring....if you're VERY lucky/unlucky, I may post a photo!!!!
=^..^= ( ooo how I LOVE this cat! )

13 Nov, 2009

Unlucky !!!!!!! LOL ;~)))

13 Nov, 2009

Thanks all...I must really consider buying the waders if we stay here....I hope everyone else weathers this series of storms well, with little or no damage and no loss!

Today we are actually down to bands of hard rain, rather than steady hard rain...but it never truly stops...you look out and it appears to be stopped, you can no longer hear it battering the house, so you take the dogs out and it is still there! Granted it is only a heavy mist in between heavy bands, but it just doesn't stop!!!!! <sigh>

=^..^= We are so glad you like the cat! :o)

13 Nov, 2009

It must be so depressing HW. How long do the rains last after a hurricane ?

13 Nov, 2009

It varies Sue....and we are just under the rain umbrella of what USED to be a hurricane, we are not being hit with the hurricane herself.

But they are saying that Saturday (tomorrow) afternoon it will be winding donw!

=^..^=

14 Nov, 2009

Well, we've got some sun here this morning, so I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll try as hard as I can to blow it over your way !!! lol ;~)))

14 Nov, 2009

I love a good thunder storm but not the damage it causes

14 Nov, 2009

I see you are from sussex county... well im from sussex county uk......and we have and are still having the most horendous weather.....gale force winds and really heavy rain.............hope you stay safe where you are........

14 Nov, 2009

Holly...I do so hope you stay safe! Starting Sunday we are expecting a week of sunshine!!!! Hope you get it also...

Sue, looks like it worked!!! Yeahhh!

Donnah...but the energy is so invigorating that comes from it! I don't like the damage either, but most thunderstorms here do not cause loads of damage, so I just enjoy them....

=^..^=

14 Nov, 2009

My God HW ...... I'm stronger than I thought !!!!!!!!! ;~))))) YO !! xx

14 Nov, 2009

:oD

14 Nov, 2009

had some fence damage.but the suns shinning today and the winds have eased off..........

15 Nov, 2009

Okay...first day of sun...Well done SUE!!!!!!

Ocean front damage, dunes washed out to sea in many places, some folks have damage inside their homes from flooding, many more just external damage...trees down, fences laying over, sogginess everywhere

Here we are pretty good....still have massive standing water ...but no fences to come down, house is pretty high above the ground and our one shaky tree is still standing! So we are doing good!

=^..^=

15 Nov, 2009

Glad to have been of help HW !! lol
Sorry for the other folk, but really glad you have not been affected too much :~))

15 Nov, 2009

So are we Sue, we were finally able to walk most of the back yard today.....we have a small mound (7- 8ft tall) 3/4 of the way to the back line and there is a pond behind it when it is wet enough...but now that mound is an island the pond surrounds!!!!

There a puddles everywhere...but the next 4 days will be sunshine and rising temperatures...so maybe there is hope of normalcy before the next rain gets here!

=^,,^=

16 Nov, 2009

So you've got your own swimming pool in the back yard !! Very posh ! lol
Seriously, fingers and toes crossed that things dry up as soon as possible :~)

16 Nov, 2009

Unfortunately...they are predicting more rain by Friday

17 Nov, 2009

Is that normal for you at this time of year, or is it still the tail end of Ivan ?

17 Nov, 2009

Well Sue... October and November are our rainiest times of the year, but this much rain is out of order.

I shouldn't complain, seeing as how everyone else is having problems too! This climate change we are going through is not selective when it comes to who it changes on! And with the Global warming I dread it getting more severe before it levels off and stabalizes again!

17 Nov, 2009

Yes, it sometimes seems as though the world is upside down weather wise at times. You hear so many differing opinions regarding Global warming that I personally do not really know who to believe. Mama Nature is in charge and she will do what she will do and all we can do is try to get through it. You really do wonder what's coming next sometimes though, don't you ? :~)

17 Nov, 2009

Agreed Sue, agreed
