Seed sowing.

Hello everyone!
I’ve had such fun – sowing seeds for the first time!

I’m trying 3 varieties of sweetpeas in the little newspaper pots I made – Cupani, Matucana and my namesake Gwendoline. (My dear Mum thought it a good idea to give her only daughter this as a middle name – I’ve been living it down ever since! My darling Rog finds it amusing to call me Gwendas hence my GOY name)
Also planted some purple Nicotiana – had some cream plants given to me last March when I first started gardening and they just flowered on and on with a lovely evening fragrance so I’m growing purple and my brother-in-law Steve is growing the cream ones again and we’ll swop some. Trying my own verbena Boniarensis from seed this year, also Jaque’s cleome seeds (bless you!) to remind me of Monet’s Garden. That reminds me I’ve been reading the book I bought there called The Impressionist Garden by Derek Fell and it is so lovely – I wish I could paint! Lastly I’ve sown some phlox called African Sunset a glorious red that I hope to plant around my olive tree to give a mediterranean feel?
I’ve put them to germinate in my back bedroom that is sunny and warm before putting them in the little plastic greenhouse Michele gave me – did I struggle putting that up this morning!!

Hope at least some of you are having this lovely bright Spring weather too and that it carries on over the weekend. Enjoy your gardens too!
Love Jo x

Yes it's been glorious here today Jo. I've come in from the garden now. I like the name Gwenda. I had a cousin with it. I hate my middle name . It was my father's. Those plastic plant growers are brilliant they hold such a lot.

Hi all! - now Hywel, no getting away with that! I told you mine's Gwendoline so what is your hated inherited middle name then? Glad you've had a lovely day in the garden too.
I'm hoping the bricks will weight the greenhouse down - what do you reckon?!
The phlox is a little compact size one so hope it has the beautiful fragrance too.

I use one of those greenhouses when I reach the pricking out stage, they are a godsend if one runs out of space, I hold mine down with tent pegs....

Jo, you sound like you have had a marvellous time with your seeds. I meant to buy Phlox seed this year and ended up ordering a stack of other seeds and forgetting all about the Phlox!! LOL. I'll try again next year. I just put in Verbena seeds today too. Mine are called 'Peaches and Cream". I've never grown them before so its a bit of an experiment. :o)

Sorry I wrote your name wrong. I knew a Gwendoline too. It's a nice name. My father's name was Gwyn. He only put it in when he went to register my birth because my grandfather ( mum's father ) told him to do so. There were two boys in our class in school called Hywel Davies so I ended up being called Gwyn which I hated. I'm nothing like my father.
