This is beautiful as if someone has switched it on.

They open quite suddenly - one morning there's a closed bud, in the afternoon if it's sunny, out comes a flower!

I have been planting more, as some of the original ones in the garden are getting old and woody. Our predecessors must have liked them - there's a bed with just these in it - as well as clumps elsewhere. Lucky I like them as well, isn't it...

I have such a soft spot for these. This is beautiful. Do you know if they take from cuttings? I should carry over stock each season indoors.

Yes, they do. At the RHS garden in Devon, there's a bed with tender perennials and that's how they do it. I haven't managed to keep one yet, but this O. jucundum, hardy over here, speads by layering itself, so that would be a bonus for you, you could dig up a piece and over-winter it!

At the GC the other day, a lady was looking at a pot of Osteospermum, and had asked a staff member if it was hardy. She was told that it was... I knew it wasn't, so I am not ashamed to tell you that I went and put her right!

Then she asked for help, so together we found a nice little selection of hardy plants... I think I shall start charging for my services, as a very similar thing happened on the previous visit! LOL.

I don't like seeing people buy plants that will probably die.

Why don't GC staff know their plants??? I think they should, before giving out advice.

It glows like a torch, It really is fantastic. We can usually get a few seasons from them. The last few years were no problem.
The garden centre staff are not trained ...... cost, cost, cost, it bugs me too, I was in a G.C. and the guy there recommended the same plant to three people in a row (must of had too much in stock!)

This one has been here for years and years, in fact, some of the original plants have died of old age! I have planted 6 new ones this spring to try to get the space filled as it was before - they do shine and I have a complete bed of them in one area. When they are all in full bloom it looks wonderful.
