Manihot grahamii - 2018 (Manihot grahamii)

A tropical tree that ought to behave like a herbaceous perennial when established. I bought this on EBAY three months ago and planted it with three leaves - look how it's grown! The challenge will now be getting it through its first winter

A new one to me.....

This now has its roots mulched, the stem wrapped in straw, and the whole plant covered with two layers of fleece. Fingers crossed I can get it through the winter

It all depends on the winter ......it looks fairly exposed?

No, it's surrounded by other plants and protected by a yew hedge. The flowers in the bottom left belong to elsholtzia stauntonii (which needs a sheltered position in full sun) which is only three years old and already five feet across

Oh ok, I am not used to seeing pictures with bare soil lol....

Well there used to be something else (big) in this space that didn't cope with the summer

Shame! we had a few of those.....

Some of my casualties died from the heat rather than the drought
