Kerria japonica

Kerria japonica (Kerria japonica (Japanese rose))

Mine is single-flowered, but there's a double one too.

I prefer the single - I think!

I think I do, too - but I inherited two of these, so I can't compare them.

The shrub is stems from the ground, and I get in there amongst them each spring and cut out the dead ones. Some people find that it 'suckers', but I have two of them, and they don't in my garden. The whole shrub is about 5 -6' tall, I suppose. I can reach the tops of the stems, anyway.

I have one facing east and the other facing south - they're both happy. No particular soil requirements, as far as I know...is that enough, April? :-))

i have such a small garden, not sure if it would work, and most of it is going to have to acc. a wheelchair, do you think it would be any use for screening, or do you think it would be too big for a small garden anyway?

I don't think it's a good shrub for screening, April - it's not all that dense. I suppose the other thing is how much space you have - I'd have thought that in a small garden, every plant would have to be for all-year interest, wouldn't it?

mm...i find it really difficult to try to figure out the best ones. i have had some successes though. i had the dicentra, somethings, (sorry, the heart shaped ones! the sooner i start catalogueing my plants the better) both the red and the white and they did really well, i find i like flowers that come and go as well though. i seem to have a short memory and always like the surprizes that keep on appearing. often found muttering,oh i'd forgotten i had that!..keeps me happy too.

LOL. I can 'usually' tell you what plant is where, but I got a new geranium recently, and I changed my mond about where it should go - TWICE!! I've totally forgotten its name - no label. It'll be a surprise when it flowers! Maybe I'll recognise it...just maybe. lol.
