It's not a leopard moth caterpillar Sixpence. I will do as Deida suggests and look in my books but unless it's a European I doubt if I'll find out.

Hi Toto I have no pics of caterpillar but book states those of the Ermine Moth - of which I guess there must be more than one variety - are white with black spots what do you think ?

I thought so, I was wondering if is was some kind of Monarch as the australian ones are white but no spots.

Deida...been trawling through internet too...and found an identical photo...but guess what ? They couldnt ID it either.....and called it photo no 56 !!! Think a book "Collins Caterpillars of Britain and Europe " might be the answer...will take a look when next in town !
