Morning Glories, subsidence, builders, pests ... it's all been goin...

It’s been a busy week … I haven’t had any time for Goy or gardening!

We’ve had the builders here as the path at the side of the house is leaning badly to port … or starboard depending on which way you’re going! As you walked along you felt as tho’ you were falling over slightly … which I know can be the effect of one too many vodkas but not all the time!!

Unfortunately it was taking the electricity supply to the house with it! The cable was being forced taut with the weight of the concrete & was at a precarious angle … so I came home from work on Thursday to find they had dug it all up …

Their cement mixer was a little too close for comfort to my Morning Glory so I made sure they knew it was there … you know how builders can have a sudden blindness when it comes to your plants!!

Altho’ I didn’t get around to growing my own this year the MG I bought already planted has been an absolute delight for weeks. In fact I moved it down from the decking as we didn’t see it enough up there.
The down pipe from the guttering provided a perfect climbing frame for it & it’s still climbing now!
By the time I get home from work all the flowers have gone over …

But this weekend we have enjoyed them in full bloom ….

Lovely!

You can never have too many MG pics you know!

Phoebe was happy on the bench until the builders turned up …

And shifted it ….

So she watched warily from the greenhouse ….

The hollyhock has grown a baby from the bottom of the stem …

And the ‘Mum’ has gone way up high!

The Acer is looking decidedly autumnal …

The last few blooms on the balloon flower I think are stunning … they really are an amazing colour & for once the camera is true to that …

I love this ivy … it’s in a small chiminea we were given once … the frost has done for it but the ivy doesn’t mind!

I’ve forgotten the name of these but they always end up with these pretty little discs …

These little asters finally flowered bless ’em …

The sweet scented Dianthus are so lovely … I should put them at nose height so they can be more appreciated!

I was lucky enough to be given another 2 bunches of gorgeous flowers … these by my friends … beautiful greeny/white lilies … I’ve cut the stamens out for the cats …

And 3 yellow roses by hubby which I put in with 2 bamboo stems I keep going in water with roots so you can use them with anything!

I bought 2 fairly expensive nasturtiums this year … double red jobbies that were a bit disappointing really … so when the old Cabbage Whiters moved in on them I wasn’t too flustered … but when the eggs hatched they really went to town …!!

At least we’ve had some rain & the butts are full to bursting again …

A certain young lady eventually came back in when the builders had gone … but she went straight upstairs & scowled at me from the landing … how dare I disturb her day with noisy men & cement mixers!!

Hope you all had a good weekend … I do wish I could join in more … just as my eyes start closing & I drift off on the sofa! Lol!! xx

I had loads of Morning Glory last year but this years didn`t survive our dry spell at the beginning of the season, yours are a delght to look at........Phoebe is gorgeous too....

Love your MG. Never had any success with them. Phoebe looks well put out. Our cats have left their footprints all over the garden because they loved the feel of wet cement and plodded though every load that went in. They were great companions for my husband when the rest of the family abandoned him. I hope they relaid the path?

Great blog. You have spectacular plants!!!!

Hi Fluff! Sorry to hear about your leaning house wall. hope that it's soon sorted! Absolutely wonderful photos, your garden still looking great despite the chaos around you...hope 'normality' returns soon... :~))

24 Aug, 2010

lol floribunda I'm sure it says the path not the wall was leaning.

Oops! Tee hee hee! Sorry!! :~))

Nothing worse than workmen about the house Fluff !! :~(( MG's boootiful !! Love the look on Pheobe's face ... ! lol :~))

24 Aug, 2010

Thanks Linclass ... MGs need loads of water I've found & I let a few go dry last year. They are lovely to see as I go to work in the mornings!

Scotsgran ... thank you ... it wasn't the cats who put their foot in the fresh cement ... it was next door's little boy! He came running in saying the new path made a squelchy noise!! :O)

Thank you very much Pip ... I was very careful not to let any weeds show in the photos!! ;o))

Hi Flori ... thank you & yes it's just the path not the wall thank goodness ... the ground is very wet around the house ... hence the subsidence.

Hey B8 ... I still think your variety is the best colour! ;o))

Lovely photos Fluff, apart from your poor Nasturtiums, mine were destroyed by blackfly so caterpillars didn`t get a chance to munch on them! Well done for making sure the workmen took care of your plants, working in a garden centre I hear customers horror stories about what workmen have done to their gardens...it doesn`t bear thinking about!

24 Aug, 2010

Thanks Lab ... they were very good really ... moved things gently etc but then they were all 3 over 45 & I think older men have had gardens & know how precious plants are to people ... either that or they've had more years of getting their ears bent about trashing them!!
I really couldn't believe how quickly the nasturtiums were totally eaten! One minute they were fine & the next they were lunch! :o(

Those nasturtiums are the best I've seen this year! ;^)

26 Aug, 2010

Love the blog Fluff, the Asters are looking lovely and colourful. I think the flowers that have discs may be 'Honesty', but I'm not sure. Have they finished your path now, and is it straight this time? Workmen can be a nuisance, but we all need them at one time or another don't we?

27 Aug, 2010

Ha ha Anchorman ... yes ... from the Garden of Horrors!!

Hi Silverbelle ... good to hear from you ... thank you ... yes the workmen have laid a lovely straight path & left saying 'wonder how long that will last!'. They know how wet it is round here!
Think the discs are much smaller than Honesty & I used to know the name ... if someone says it I'll pretend I knew it all along! Lol!! :o))

27 Aug, 2010

Of course you do Fluff............you're only testing us to see how much we know! Lol ;-))

28 Aug, 2010

Thank you Daylily ... sorry to be so late in replying ... it's been a busy time! Everything is going over a bit now ... it's been so windy! ;o)

5 Sep, 2010

Hope everything sorted, just looking again and those flowers with the little discs are they a type of euphorbia :^)

5 Sep, 2010

Yes I think so Daylily. I think it looks like euphorbia cyparissias.

5 Sep, 2010

Oh yes! Told you I'd know if you said it! (Honest silverbelle!!).
Well done Daylily & Scotsgran! Thank you!! :o))

6 Sep, 2010

I believed you Fluff, and it's a pretty plant whatever it's called, I do like it.............the pink edges give it a lovely dreamy quality ;-))

:o))))

Just catching up with all I've missed over the last month or so. Your morning glory photos are lovely - mine came to nothing this year in spite of being started off in the greenhouse. I will try again next year and plant them in a pot instead of in the ground. Hope all your unheaval is over and done with now so you can enjoy a peaceful autumn :)

16 Sep, 2010

Hi Gee ... thank you! I think I'll try lots of different MGs next year ... start them off much earlier & put them all together! Yes it's all over now ... including the MGs ... kept lots of seed though! :o)
