Withdrawal symptoms:

I had to drive up to Clapham South yesterday so could not spend time in the garden.
Suffering from withdrawal? so today up with the larks put the washing out and scrubbed the garden chairs moved 8 Dianathus to a poorer soil. Planted the rest of the bulbs, took loads of cuttings and planted up the last 2 winter baskets. Planted up 4 tubs for winter colour. Mowed the grass. Did lots of tidying, had lunch in the garden, went to the local dump and back for a cup of tea in the garden. Watched the male pheasant rounding up his women. Then found a Spiraea goldmound completely hidden away and not doing well forgotten I even had one there so now it has a new home. Teak oiled the now dry garden chairs and when it got dark I eventually came in to watch Autumn Watch (loved the hare in the kitchen). Where did the day go?

Could you please explain about the Dianthus... do they prefer a poorer soil ? Thanks...

Oh to be able to be so energetic. Was once. You do sound as though you thoroughly enjoyed doing all those things which was a lot by any standards. It is so satisfying isn't it? Can I be rude and chip in on your territory and reply to Terratoonie? Yes Dianthus do prefer poor very well-drained soil. I know you would have replied. I hope you aren't dashing about quite so much today. It is definitely much colder here in Norfolk today, and quite windy. Bet you're glad you got all that done if it is like that where you are.

Actually yesterday was a take my mind off things day. Just needed to be busy glad now I got so much done as today there is a cold wind.
Yes Mad as you said Dianathus prefer poor soil and good drainage and not much water.I only found that out myself from GOY quite recently.

And me! The wind is howling outside - and it's a chilly one, as well. I should be planting bulbs, but I'll have to get wrapped up to set foot out there. I could do with some help as well, Denise, so when you've finished helping Madperth.........

Well what a busy day you had.....

3 Oct, 2009

Aww your so organised, we've had big winds the past two days and heaps of rain, pot plants blown over/around as well as other bits 'n' bobs and the bird table snapped of at ground level scattering all around and roof slates broken.
Last Thursday we had the first dry day in weeks, I managed to make urgent repairs to the house (spent the day on the roof) and started to cut the grass but rain resumed at tea time so all has ground to a halt again. Today started dry so fingers crossed.

We've had about 5 sunny days since mid June (the pepper & chillie plants did nothing) and VERY few rain free days. This year has been a weather right off for gardening and building/maintenance. I could whine on but I best not.
Sunshine is streaming through the window this very moment so I'm off out...bye
