William the Conqueror gave the manor to the de Bedgebury family who owned it until 1450 when the Culpepper family acquired the land. Queen Elizabeth I knighted Alexander Culpepper in 1573 when she stayed there, it was famous for its iron workings and furnace.
Kilndown was originally a hamlet supplying charcoal and workers to the estate, In 1836 Bedgebury was purchased by Field Marshal Viscount Beresford, one of the field commanders of The Duke of Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars. The church was built in 1841, to provide religious services for the estate workers. Bedgebury is now the National Pinetum.

We have to cross this field and the young men are far enough away?

Oh they are on the move!

Whew He just want to show us his earrings

Destination ahead

Has she got pierced ears Alex? Careful though, they seem very popular and she wouldnt want to cause a stampede!

She has got pierced ears, yes. Well, I will get her a pair, and leave it up to her whether she wears them. LOL.

I`ll be honest and admit that I wouldn`t even have entered the field, not even to admire their earrings, I`d have admired from a safe distance and been happy with just a photograph, lol....
