March the third..

It’s been a lovely but dull day today so far, very mild and very nice, everybody here is mowing their lawns and that’s all you can smell, lovely fresh cut grass..

Not only that but there are about 6 frogs in the pond all mating already, frogspawn is surely on the way very soon, waterlilies are begining to send up lily pads and the fish are also very active, the trees, bushes and my acers are all in bud with leaves ready to burst open!!

It all sounds very busy Dan. We are expecting snow!!

We've been forecast it, and it's the total opposite :)

I check every day here Dan, no signs of the frogs in either pond yet but the Marsh Marigolds in the bottom pond are full of buds, very unexpected actually as that one is in the shade except for very early morning, I will know when the frogs appear as my cats are also keeping watch, little beggars...

Haha! The dog has been chasing the frogs around!! He never does anything to them, the fish hate the frogs, the bigger ones seem to chase them off. My marsh marigolds have very little foliage and 0 buds at the moment but most other things have put on lots of growth :)

With your air highs around 45 day and in the 30's at night. Those are some kind of frogs you have there. The only thing that could be causing them to be so active at those air temps and lower water temps is the heat given off by a large in pond water pump. What is your pond water temp Dan? Also they have no food source at this time of year to provide energy for mating and all that goes with it...territorial wrestling matches and calling. If my frogs did that at those temps they would be in bad shape or dead in about four days.

I'm not too sure what the water temperature is but there's a lot of activity and lots of things happening at the moment under there, have got blanket weed and hair/string algae starting to grow too again, can tell its gradually warming up. Tomorrows weather is forecast very very different.. cold and snow.

Ditto....It is snowing here as I am writing this...as you know, some minks got all my fish and all I have got left are the frogs in my ponds, all Rana clamitans. I love these green frogs. As a matter of fact at around the age of ten I caught one sitting on the edge of a creek and kept him as a pet for four years. When "Greenie" past away I could not part with him so I placed him in one of my mother's " Ball" preserves jar, topped him off with rubbing alcohol and over seventy years later he is still with me, fresh as a daisy , sitting on a shelf next to me by the computer. As a matter of fact I will post a photo of him in the jar on GOY for the world to see. Boy! That would be a great place to be if my kids could find a preserves jar big enough to put me in:) p.s. instead of rubbing alcohol to preserve me I would prefer some good Scotch Whiskey... Hopefully they will wait for me to pass on. I don't want to end up like Clarence in Shakespeare's "Richard The Third" :(

Oh no!! And in the end we've just had a lot of rain overnight that's been very heavy :) Atleast the plants had a good water and the pond got topped up :)

It's now decided after a lovely sunny ish morning that the snow is coming, within an hour the garden has began to cover over with the snow.. What a contrast to yesterday.

It's nice to see the spring coming. I hope you didn't get any snow. I've heard many northern areas have had some.
I love the smell of mown grass too :)
