Found this waspnest in one of my birdnest box on Friday.

This morning i rang up council only to be told they dont get rid of them anymore so i then rang rentokill they wonted £89 to sort it out, then rang up a local firm to see what they charge and they wonted £79 to come and do it, then another £79 to get rid of nest 7 days after, so i’ve been to papershop got the local Gazette and found a local lad that will come tomorrow and sort it out for £45. Just cant believe that the council dont do anything like this they dont even do anything nomore if you have rats or anything.

It must depend where you live, are neighbour had a wasp nest last year in his garden, and the council come out for him. I'm glad you found someone you will come and do it for you.

Think you can buy stuff from B&Q and Homebase but i'd be nervus of trying to get rid of them myself. best bit is they picked the dearest nestbox to make a home for themselves.

Hi I had wasp in two of my boxes last year and went to B&Q and bought some powder £3 sprayed it around the entrance to the nest and inside then a couple of weeks later opened up the boxes and cleared the nest out seen none since

Thanks if its that easy i may cancel the lad who's coming to do it and go get some, did they not try to attack you. Knowing my luck i'd not do it right and they would still be alive when i checked it a couple of weeks later.

I had a similar experience 10 years ago and I tried many things from D.I.Y shops and nothing worked. I then called an expert for 95 pounds. He sprayed something and they all disappeared in less than an hour.

Right thanks alot, think i'm better off then letting the lad who's coming tomorrow, like you say they know what there doing and he is coming back next week to double check it and clean it out for me, so dont think i'm doing bad for £45.

we had a wasp nest. our council charged £40 to get rid of it. Rats are free, thank goodness we don't suffer with them

Carol, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new nestbox for next year and stick a rubber bung or something in the hole of this one? Any wasps inside will die and any outside will have to go somewhere else.

Our council stopped a few years back, of course they still put the council tax up every year....

I've thought about it since this afternoon and i'm going to let the fellow sort it out tomorrow for me, would'nt like any of my grandchildren coming and getting stung, the nestbox is one with 3nest in one box they are for sparrows, and i paid £35 for it about 6-7yrs ago from RSPB so it would be alot dearer now to buy.

Useful information on this blog, Clarice, so I've given it a "like"... I hope the wasp nest is soon sorted ...

We had the council out several times but then when they put the charges up my OH bought powder from the hardware store, he was told to do it at night when it was dark and like an idiot he shone a torch at them , they came out and stung him .........

Oh blimey Amy, glad i've got someone coming to do it for me tomorrow.

Good luck Carol, they'll be gone soon, thankfully. Have the cats been inquisitive :(

Clarice, I thought that Wasps die off in October and they do not use the same nests again.
Perhaps if you are worried about the children then this is too long to wait.

I had 2 last year and used that company. I paid £89 that is the going rate for up to 2 nests but only if they are no more than 10 feet apart. luckily they didnt measure the distance between. They said if one had been at the front and one at the back the charge would be for 2, seems a lot for a long pole and a couple of puffs. I think it should be a call out charge and any amount of nest on one house? Stroller we dont usually bother to get rid but these were both above the 2 bedroom windows and were coming in.

Oh dear!
We have lots of nests at the stud! We wait till nighttime and then spray the powedery stuff into the entrace of the nest and then run like heck! They wont come out at night!!!

Gosh Carol I would be terrified I just can't stand wasps, I think you are best letting your lad sort it out and stay well away until they are all dead, will he clear the nest away too? such a shame that the council wont do it for free for you, hope it has gone now!

Hi Clarice I hope you have had your wasp nest sorted now, they can be a nusiance, as others have said it is best to do it at night if you D.I.Y. cheers

15 Jun, 2011

Hope you have got rid of it by now, Clarice. We have got rid of some ourselves, it depends where they are really.

15 Jun, 2011
