So what is the silliest thing you have done in the garden or with a plant in the house?

Starting the ball rolling….
1/ I saw one of my prize pots at the bottom of the garden yesterday full of nice soil with a mass off grass growing in it & nothing besides. Bulb failure? Dead plant? Got the grass out & tipped the soil down to drainage bricks & a resident earth worm . Nada . Niente. Zip. The soil was dry & warm so at least it is ready for something…….
2/ Double green Christmas Rose was ready for planting but I forgot. The core is still erect but overlooking a plant by just a day is crazy. The drying wind this week may have killed this beauty off.
3/ Indoor mini kumquat. Leaves were lovely & fruit was really good. Soil moist & plant happy in a sunny spot. Winter survived……I let the soil dry out in a week & it is shrivelled up. Every other plant in the house is fine. Must have simply missed watering him & done the others. Leaves & fruit are still on so you never know.

Most recent is being unwell for a few days and forgot one of my pots of my 6 month old baby hartstongue ferns. Luckily the other container survived. I do daft things more often than I used to...

The ability to forget improves with age......Now where was I?

I've had an old hamster cage with pots of French beans in it for a few weeks. They are in the cage to keep the vole/mouse out. Nothing yet. so I investigated and not a bean in sight. Then I found the un opened packet of seed. So I have been protecting compost ! seed now sown.

Oh dear Sbg, I have to admit to laughing out loud...sorry.
My own Ooops. ..planting Allium bulbs. I hate their leaves but can't seem to be able to get rid of them.

My daughter moved just before the lockdown and her furniture and plants arrived here. My Oops was not making sure her huge hoard of plants were where they should be and putting the Camellia in the sun, burnt leaves and buds! My own plant Oops is trailing Rosemary, which had just got to a lovely size and trailing beautifully, left in the full sun and drying wind, now looks like the dried equivalent!

Placing weed preventing membrane.....the weeds just grew on top of it sending fine hairlike roots through it to the subsoil thereby “nailing” the membrane down to Mother Earth. What a b...ch it was to remove.

Waddy!! Allium stink! But the leaves are ugly & too big.
Loose ! Weed haven is membrane's roll.
SBG !!! Put seeds in a packet & leave in hamster cage is nothing short of revolutionary.

I couldn't agree more Bill. The trouble is they are planted in a mixed bed with flora right the way through the year, so weed suppressant membrane is no good. I'm just going to have to continue trying to pull/dig them up. 😠😠

the seeds were in the house so I'm not that ditsy haha.
Membranes can create more problems cant it. I have lots of allium christophii that have self sown. but they how out when small.

My 4/ I had geum in the front in the border & pulled them all up mistaking it for buttercups. They are rampant here in every garden ,field & meadow

I can so identify with your allium issue, Waddy. I planted them in the borders either side of the front garden footpath, the pictures on the front of the boxes in the shops look so dainty but they don't warn of their prolific multiplying, the thick carpet of leaves and that smell! I had planted them between lavenders but they overpower the perfume from those :-(

Xela, I'm trying to 'over plant' with hardy geraniums as they seem to grow high enough to cover the leaves. So far, where I've experimented, it seems to be working.
