Winter scenes from Yorkshire , England.

Oh my word where did this white stuff come from ?

Brr I m frozen ..

I rather like this time of year ..

So long as he sticks to fruit and leaves mealworms for me ..

Of course theres always competiton from wagtail and starlings .. but then

How many of them appear on Christmas cards ?

Merry Christmas from me and all my feathered friends .

your home is beautifull jane and ray, can i come and stay lol

20 Dec, 2009

Is it in the middle of nowhere as well, as much as i like it, i'd never get anywhere if it was, i'm with in walking distance of most things and the buses here are every 7-10 mins,so not being able to drive (except everyone up the wall) its so handy for me, plus not much snow.

20 Dec, 2009

Yes you can keep the snow lol
Birds are ok in the sky or in the trees :o)
I saw a wren last week in my garden. There were lots around the old cottage where I used to live but only a few here. We have plenty of bulfinches goldfinches and sparrows, and I've seen one woodpecker. Some Robins also, but mostly Jack Daws lol

20 Dec, 2009

Not too remote Clarice on a bus route we have a shop and a garage ..

There you go Hywel you wouldnt get so many visitors if you didnt make them feel welcome ..only the blackbirds come into our kitchen all the others use the trees and sky ..

Merry Christmas Ray & Jane.........xx

20 Dec, 2009

Love the photos and the cottage - beams and spiders seem to 'go' together, don't they, Ray/Jane! Is that your garden in photo 3?

I'm sooooooo glad we haven't any s**w here! You KNOW how I feel about it, too!

Happy Christmas, you two - and keep warm!

20 Dec, 2009

Lovely photos and setting of your house BB.Love the chilly blackbird :)
You can't live in North Yorks and not expect weather like this, but I'm sure you wouldn't swap it for anywhere else ! We have just had some sleet (Lincolnshire) so hopefully it will be turning milder now.I hope so, the poor fish are in suspended animation !
Happy Christmas to you too :)

20 Dec, 2009

I love your winter scene blog, your photos a delight, do like your cottage I dont like spiders, draughts, love country cottages but like all mod cons, have you a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy?
Hope you both have a really magical Christmas x

20 Dec, 2009

You've a lovely home, and in such a great setting. (Have you opened up that room yet?). Love your wildlife photos, so sharp, a real treat to see. Thank you. Enjoy your Christmas :)

20 Dec, 2009

~it looks lovely but the reality is hard to live with for the birds and animals!~we have had some very hard frosts lately and one of my robins has found the suet pellets and seems to be very happy with those~I was so close but didn't have my camera!

20 Dec, 2009

What a beautiful home you have Bb.
Your photos are great, xmas card scenes !

20 Dec, 2009

Ray/Jane, your cottage is so quaint ..... just beautiful. Love your birds too - the 2nd picture of the blackbird is amazing - he looks all shaggy. Great blog. Keep warm.

20 Dec, 2009

~yes forgot to say how much like a Christmas card your cottage looks in these pics~~I hope you are both managing to stay warm too!

20 Dec, 2009

He he Hywel well if you have a spare moment go to my blog archive and in June you ll see Knock knock whos there ? Shows our kitchen visitor and should warn you also has pics of us man handling birds from the pond lol

Thanks Lincslass and wishing you and your family much peace and happiness throught the festive season and New Year.No gardening but took a customer to the hairdressers yesterday as son couldnt get over to do it ..we had a laugh down her icy path and think she secretly enjoyed being man handled into my van ..

Thanks Spritz know this a busy time for many ladies so hope its all as stress free as possible. Yes thats part of the garden looks at its best covered up.. might be pushing my luck with those poor Coprosmas this year .

Wishing you and your family much peace and happiness throughout the festive season and for the New Year .

Aye Aster the ideal place to chill out ..hope your poor fish thaw soon though dont think ice affects them as long as they can breathe ? Hope you and your family enjoy all this time of year brings.

Thanks DD would love a stove but need a special flue due to A frame timbers we have open fires and thats cosy as long as wind in right direction lol
Thanks for all your kind comments throughout the year and hope your and family and all those lucky grandchildren enjoy a wonderful family Christmas.

Thank you Gee .. yours too as know how much you love your garden visitors perhaps your tortoises got the right idea and imagine a few would say wake me up when its all over lol Have some decorating to do before I open those rooms which promised Jane would do before making more mess ..Christmas greetings and bestwishes for New Year to you to ..

Yes they do have it tough Arlene but some like wagtail we only really see this time of year and goldfinches will feed in a blizzard and many chose to bathe in frozen water ..think many realise that we humans will help and lose their inhibitions to gain extra food. Ours was even at peanut feeder today which not seen robin do ..suet pellets are great as high energy for them.

Wishing you and your family a lovely Christmas x

Thank you Louise a Merry Christmas to you apparently we ve had 8 inches of snow and last night temps were minus 13 according to the news ..

Thank you Dawn Merry Christmas to you John and family .. hope he s not on nights over Christmas and you get some time together.

20 Dec, 2009

Well - a blanket of snow is a lot better for plants than frosts, isn't it! Maybe the Coprosma will survive under there, Ray. I hope so, anyway.

Beautiful pictures,Bb.You have put me in the christmas spirit now.We know the area where you live too,as often go to Whitby, via Thornton le Dale,as we always stop off for a coffee there, and weather permitting, walk around the Village..lovely part of Yorkshire.I would say that as a Yorkshire "lass" though, but it takes some beating around that area.Seasons greetings to you and yours, and a Happy new year.....Sandra.x

Only just seen this! Beautiful pictures Jane and Ray! Particularly the Robin. And I see you have Long Tailed Tits there. I understand they are growing in numbers around the UK. I saw one in my garden for the very first time yesterday morning. It was a fantastic sight! And it was my birthday, so a great birthday treat to see it. My youngest, Lloyd, was a little bemused that I could be so excited to see a bird but he humoured me!!!

23 Dec, 2009

I've just realised that these aren't Long Tailed Tit's, or are they? But I'm sure my one was, he had a little spec of yellow under his chin!

23 Dec, 2009

Yes they are longtailed tits Paul.Dont get them very often but like you say its exciting when they arrive chattering away ! Glad you had a birthday visit !
