Now that you are feeling much better, and back amongst us again..I thought you might like to see how all your gifts to me are doing..
Firstly,.The Osmanthus..It is doing great, and about 12" tall now..I had to clear away some of next years foliage on the Honesty, and zoom in a bit :o)

Penstemon, one of two that survived…with a struggle..but it is getting there..I wasn’t going to give up on it :o)

Nigella, from the seeds you sent me..this is the only blue one,but have a few white ones :o)..

and lastly,my Favourites..Malva’s also from your seeds :o)

So even though you have been taking a break,I can still think of you, when I’m in the garden…take care,Shirley..xx

I don't know what to say, Bloomer ... what a lovely blog to welcome me back (now in my Faves) ... and so pleased to see the plants are thriving in your garden ... the two Osmanthus in my front garden are about 1ft. high (like yours) and the same across so perhaps I'm just being impatient! ... I pass a house every day where the Osmanthus is up to the wall ... about 4ft. I should think ... I left some of the Malva plants in the ground last year and have been surprised to see they have all survived and are in bloom ... just had a look at the Echinops I grew from the seed you sent me ... lots of flowers ready to open up before long ... isn't GoY great for swapping plants and seeds? ... not to mention the friendliness of the folk on it too ... many thanks ... :o)x .......

Oh thanks, Pp, Motty and Denise ... so long as I keep taking the tablets I should be fine ... :o)))

Sorry to hear you've been poorly, Shirley. Wondered where you were. Hope you're well on the road to recovery now.
My penstemons which struggled through the winter look just like yours, Bloomer, i.e. good growth but no flowers yet. According to Paul, Summer is planning a visit from 8th August, so that should tempt those tardy blooms to put in an appearance.

Glad you enjoyed it Shirley....I didn't realise Osmanthus grew so tall..I might leave it where it is then..as I mentioned to you,I might put it in a pot...probably would get too big,I think..I left the Malva's in all winter too..just chopped them back a bit yesterday,as they were looking leggy..but I have remembered to leave some seed heads on to ripen, for next year..you know how 'tidy' I can be..for want of a better word :o)
Glad the Echinops is doing ok..mine are just turning blue now..I took a pic this morning,so will post it later ...you show me yours, and I'll show you mine !! ha ha x

They will probably be fine next year,Tuesdaybear..but not sure if mine is a hardy one,so I might pot it up and overwinter it again..it was inside last winter,as it didn't look too good..it looked better when Shirley first sent it to me..and then went downhill ! :o)..

Tuesdaybear, I'm feeling a lot stronger now, had a heart attack back in January ... thought they happened to other people! ... I have Penstemon 'Garnet' planted around the garden and they are flowering for the second time now ... must like my Sussex clay .......

Bloomer, I'll take cuttings of the Penstemons again ... really easy and some even rooted in a jar of rainwater ... :o)

Pam ... it's been a pretty good day down here ... even managed to sit out with a cuppa this afternoon ... :o)

Hello to you Jane ... I joined GoY back in January 2010 ... got my first computer at Christmas 2009 and asked a gardening question ... GoY came up with the answer and the rest is history! ... I should tell you I was on here as Megan75 for a short time ... but it all got too confusing as our cat is Megan and folk thought I was a mature Welsh lady ... lol! ... I just find this site a very informative one with lots of humour thrown in ... :o)

Paul, I had forgotten about that Ivy ... it must be much bigger now! ... :o)

Have you noticed that Hoverflies gather round Malva Moschata plants on warm late summer evenings ? I always have some white ones growing near my Brassicas,as the Hoverflies eat the Cabbage White Butterfly larvae which saves spraying. Thats until 2nd week in September, the night time temperatures drop, and the Hoverflies disappear for the winter. I discovered this years ago quite by chance.

7 Aug, 2012

Hallo Shirley, and welcome back from me too.

Pleased to hear you're feeling better - take care of yourself, won't you. xx

8 Aug, 2012

Oh hello to you too, Spritz! ... It seems to have taken a long, long time to get the meds. sorted ... at last I feel better ... about to PM you ... :o) x

8 Aug, 2012

We're probably on the same ones! I get really fed up with taking handfuls of pills every day - but needs must. <sigh>

8 Aug, 2012

I wouldn't be surprised if we are, Spritz ... we must be thankful to modern medicine for helping our recovery ... :o)

8 Aug, 2012

Did you read in the paper that Statins should be taken by everyone over 50 because they're so effective? I'm on them, and I bet you are too! :-)

13 Aug, 2012

I've had to stop them, they changed the one I was on and initially I felt better but then had awful tummy ache if I ate any fruit, the muscle pains returned and then my heart started to race,,, bp went sky high with a pulse rate of about 100.......not nice.....so I,m now 3months with no statins to see what happens, the bp immediatly came down and I began to sleep better, the pain from fibromyalgia is still there but much less, the pills seemed to be making the symptoms more intense and I realise that the last 7years on statins
after a similar problem with hrt have been gradually making me worse.....
But after3months and another blood test what do I do if the figures are high........it worries me.

Hope you don't mind me putting my worry on here but it was the thought of whats happening to me may affect someone else too
Pam x

13 Aug, 2012

Sorry to hear that,Pam..and hope everything is ok,with your blood tests..I have been on Statins for about the same length of time, with no adverse effects..and take other meds too,but for different problems...so maybe you are one of those unlucky ones,to have this reaction...it does happen ...like with all meds..About the fruit..all I avoid is Grapefruit or the juice, which react badly with statins..but other fruit seems fine...It is a worry for you,I can understand how you feel ...

13 Aug, 2012

Thanks Bloomer, it was a bit scary,.

13 Aug, 2012

Yes, Spritz, a Statin in the evening ... no side effects so far ... :o)
