Cuenca 2015 – just!

As you know – from my last blog – (http://www.growsonyou.com/balcony/blog/27907-back-from-sunny-but-very-cold-spain) – my wife, who is Spanish, & I went to Spain, to Cuenca, on January 2nd – the New Year had hardly started when we started out for the airport at 3.30am!

Why did we go so early in the year? Because it was my mother-in-law & sister-in-law’s birthdays – they are both on the same day but it was extra special this year as Mamá celebrated her 90th birthday! We made an extra special effort to be there for her.

Here is a photo of our granddaughter, Ainara, sitting on her dad’s lap (our youngest son), blowing out the candles on her great-great grandmother’s birthday cake!

Here is another one of her doing the same while she was sitting on her Nan’s lap while her great aunt looked on – she loved doing it & we had to light the candles several times so she could blow them out!

Anyone care for a slice?

Well, you’re too late! It was my slice & I’ve eaten it! LOL!

We stayed in Cuenca for only 10 days but as it was still only just after the New Year had started we were able to see the Christmas lights adorning the streets as they weren’t taken down till the day before we had to return to the UK. I’ll write about this in another blog in a couple of day’ time.

We were also able to see the “Three Kings Parade”. The sixth of January is the “Three Kings’ Day” – what we call the the Three Wise Men here in the UK. On the night of the 5th they hold parades through out Spain. Just like some places here hold Santa Claus parades only these parades are held in every town & city & probably the larger villages everywhere in Spain. But I shall save this for another blog in a couple of days time.
