New Park in my area. I'm delighted!

I went for my creak walk last week and spotted a new area over across the other side so I just had to investigate. So on my drive home I found it. Oh I was so delighted it a new park, complete with gardens, trees, ponds walk way seats, basketball court, kids park that looks a bit like Tellitubby land. It made me grin when I saw it. There is a stream, man made of course with stepping stones across or maybe they should be called boulders and little water falls in it, anyway I think it just lovely and I’m so delighted with it. It’s even within walking distance from me should I be so inclined to walk down a road with loads of traffic passing by. Oh and there is a band stand I had often wonder what that big what odd looking thing I was seeing in the distance when I was on my walk, well it turns out to be a band stand. It’s interesting but I think a bit out of place. Annnd there is even security.
I just think they have done a wonderful job on it. It’s so different to anything I’ve ever seen before and I can’t wait to see all the plants grow in. So I thought my gardening comrades here might like to see a few pics of it.
Hope you like it as much as I do but the picture don’t quite capture the vibe of it.

Happy gardening to you all.
Hope your all doing and keeping well.

The only thing I'd change if I could is that bright orange fence, I'd paint it green to blend in.

Sure wish there was an easier way to upload pics to this site as it takes toooooo long.
Drag and drop would be great.

Thats a wonderful new park Angie it will be lovely to watch it mature over the coming years. You will come to enjoy the bandstand free music to sit and listen to on a summers day - no you cannot have a park without a bandstand enjoy lol

What a lovely space for families to enjoy. As Drc726says I think you will be grateful for the band stand . The Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh is always well used. There are childrens events during the summer days and the evenings are or were given over to Scottish Country Dance bands playing for the enthusiasts and entertaining for the less active. All of our children cut their teeth on the talent shows for the children. Unfortunately their promise at age five did not grow apace. LOL. I do hope the security is maintained because it makes a huge difference to the way the park develops and I am all for those regulations. What a great way of travelling around the world and seeing how other people live. Thank you for showing it to us.

Nice - I like their plant choices. Are some of those native California plants?

It's odd that I didn't get a message on my email telling me that I had comments.

Thank you all for your comments, nice to hear from you.
So your all in favor of the bandstand. Ok I'll reserve my thoughts on it for now. Thanks for your feed back.
I'm really delighted with the park, not many have found it yet so I'm enjoying it, pretending it's all mine. :-) I went for a quick walk there this evening on my way back from the beach, didn't feel like walking there as the fog was rolling in yet again.:-( Reallllly I'm only in LA for the sun & heat and I just don't know what has happened to summer or where it is this year but no real beach days! Over cast, over cast, over cast. Ahh the odd bit of sun but no real heat. I got an hour of sun this afternoon after begging it to come out and play for even an hour! It did moments after my begging was done it shawn on me for an hour then clouded over again. Odd thing was it was just one big hole in the clouds like a big super trouper of a bean down from the heavens. Damn! I just thought I should have taken a pic. Anyway as the fog rolled in I headed to the park b4 it reached there. I saw a lot of growth and more blooms but sad to say a few plants were not getting enough water and were on the verge of death. I didn't see any security around to tell them. That's the thing about LA they are great at putting in parks but don't keep them up as it think they should be. I took a few pics so I may post them.

Lauram to answer your question not all are natives but a lot are or they are plants that do well here. The Purple flower one that looks like sage I have never seen b4 but I love it. Don't tell anyone but I pinch a few cuttings and I think one has taken root.

All the best to u all.

Thank u all for ur much appreciated comments. I am enjoying the park as each time I go there there are more flowers and bulbs in bloom. I'm just glad it so near to me as there are so few parks in LA and any of the other are a bit of a drive away. I think every new development should have a park and every apartment building should have a vegetable patch area. It would lend its self to more sustainability and every little thing we do to care for this beautiful planet we live on help.
Happy gardening to u all.

Angieindgarden:

Great photos! Looks like a wonderful park!

I live in inland San Diego and I know what you mean about not having a real summer. It was the coolest summer in San Diego since 1933. However, now that it's Autumn, the real heat seems to have arrived.

Yes, Delonix1 the heat is here & I'm just loved the last 6 days, although now it seems to humid for me since yesterday. I can take the heat but not the humidity. Fri. Sat. Sun. & Mon. were fab! I was lapping the sun up. It seems the seasons are changing their time. I've notice that in the last few yrs.
Last week at this park they were shooting BONES the Tv show! Not sure when it will be on but if u watch it or anyone else that has read my blog watch out for the park in the background. The show is supposed to be set in Columbia up north east, but like everything else, or most everything else on Tv it's not so.

Angieindgarden:

Yes, yesterday the monsoonal flow started here. Now it's hot and humid...and the nights are staying really HOT! It's getting pretty late in the year to have the monsoonal flow. It's suppose to last 2 or 3 more days here in San Diego.

Where's the park located? Is it in the Los Angeles city limits.

Hi Del

I love the warm nights! have been hating the cool summer we have had, it's just the humidity I dread. It's been an odd yr. weather wise & I don't care when the heat comes I'm just glad it came, even if it's just for a week or so. I tell ya you'll hear me bitchen when the cold comes back.

The park is in LA address, I think. It's on the old Howard Huges land in Playa Vista

Angieindgarden:

I like warm nights, however, not hot nights! : > )

I agree with you 100%, it's been a very strange year weather wise! Hopefully, we'll be getting back to some normal weather soon!

I never say "cold" weather here... as many people laugh at what we consider cold.

Thanks for the info. on the park. I'll have to check it out on the internet.

Yes, I agree w/u reg; the weather, we really don't have too much to complain about here in Calif. I don't even mind the rain when we get it as we need it so badly, it's just the fog, June glum & humidity I could live without.
It's another lovely day here except for the humidity but it doesn't seem as bad as yesterday. Well, I'm just loving the fell of the warmth.
I saw on the news that SD is expecting rains.

Angieindgarden:

Yes, we had many thunderstorms which started late last night and the whole day today (Sept 30, 2010). We even received some much needed rain...almost a .25 of an inch. Tomorrow we may receive more thunderstorms again...hope we get more rain! : >)

We could use a bit of rain here. Same day as yesterday here, so very humid! Not too bad at the moment though.

Angieindgarden:

Right now it's really very humid...I almost don't believe it's Oct. 1st. Usually, this time of year (as you know) it's typically very dry because of Santa Ana Wind conditions.
