Like to judge these gardens?

As a member of our local `In Bloom` group I was recently invited to go along and judge a number of our local gardens who had entered the annual competition. All `judges` were armed with a criteria to mark against including: Health & Vigour of plants, evidence of regular dead-heading, cultivation of less common plants, evidence that the garden has all year round interest, lawns weed free and cut to acceptable standard, evidence of composting, to name but a few.
Here are pictures of some of the entries, I wonder which GOY members would prefer?

I know I have my favourites, but which ones are yours?

It would be too unkind to choose without seeing the whole of the gardens.... I bet all the owners worked SOOO hard on their own patches! What did the winner get, Andrea?

They are awarded gold, silver and bronze. It used to be 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but better now as there can be more winners. The golds, I think only 2 out of the whole batch, get £50, silver £40 and bronze £30. There are also awards of commended and highly commended.
But as you say Spritz, the joy I`m sure is in entering and any award will just be the icing on the cake, There were 17 gardens that entered, and all were quite different.
Does anyone have a similar competition in their area, I wonder?

I haven't heard of it before. I think you'd have to be very brave to enter, especially this year!!!!

I agree Spritz, I guess it`s a chance for the smaller gardens to attract some visitors, there was everything from some quite large gardens, to people who tend their council flat garden and an old lady in her 90s who has lots of tlc for her containers and baskets.
Not sure I`m qualified to judge but it was a really interesting day!

I'm quite sure it was - I hope the old lady got lots of praise. I hope I can still garden at her age!

Lots of effort by everyone concerned. They look great.

It must be very hard trying to decide on the 'winners' as they are all so different with varying styles and planting schemes. They all have been created with so much passion and care.

So do I, but I must admit to really liking the shady garden, last but one picture, it just had that special `something`.

The last one looked very colourful and caught my eye, but thats only at a glance, there was another which looked well cared for and marks down the lawn. Must be a nice job.
