About me

I am an allotment holder in Hadleigh Essex. I have developed an interest in growing exhibition onions. This came about by accident. I sowed a variety Kelsea and had what I consider pretty good results, considering that I thought that big meant 250gms, not the 2.5kilo and with agirth of 20 inches, which amazed me and many of my fellow allotmenteers and although I had never exhibited veg before, made first prize in the onions over 250gm section.
This has naturally inspired me to try and achieve the same next year and to achieve this I shall be growing three varieties. Fothergills Kelsae, Marshalls Dunton, and Kings Mammoth Improved.
Have any members had any experience with the last to varieties?
Apart from this specialised interest I grow general veg but get frustrated by not being able to grow swedes. Any tips about these?
Over the last two years, blight has been virulent, and I now feel that whilst I can handle the effect on the potatoes it is thetomato crop that I feel is not worth growing which is a great disappointment as to me homegrown toms are the tops.
