Happy New Year Everyone

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have all been first footed by a dark haired chap with a lump of coal for you. My son was the first to come into our household this New Year (he rolled in between 3 and 4 am. apparently), he’s tall, dark haired and, to my eyes, handsome but he wasn’t carrying a lump of coal, just bearing a painful looking shin (he says he fell over a flower pot on a friend’s balcony while partying), not sure he counts as a first-footer anyway ‘cos he lives here!
While the youngsters were out partying Paul and I saw the New Year in together with my Mum, we had a very pleasant evening more suited to our generations with haggis for supper washed down with a wee dram or two.
I hope your New Year’s Eve was an enjoyable one too and that 2009 is off to a good start and continues to be so.

Happy New Year to you, too, Xela. Nothing special for our New Year, yet. No celebration just to bed early with a good book. Gotta get up early with my Mom. I live in a house with 17 inch outer walls so I didn't even hear any noise but I'm sure there was plenty of it. Hope you have a great year.

Happy New Year Xela !
In my younger days I was unwanted on New yrs Eve because I was gingery. My brother with jet black hair was in big demand from all the neighbours.
One year he had flu and my mother told everyone he'd be unable to come but they insisted, so off he went being carried by my father, and they all insisted on my brother's head being pushed in through the door first before my father entered himself.

Happy New Year, Xela!

You put us to shame! Am afraid that we all fell asleep, as planned, b4 the "bells". Last thing I remember were some fireworks being let off somewhere near by at 11pm. Spent a lovely sunny afternoon outdoors, sweeping down the garden paths and making some mental notes for the weeks ahead. Roll on Spring!

Happy New Year to you too Xela. We spent some of New Year's Eve in the garden (even though white over) doing bits and bobs. This must have made me tired, yawn, yawn, cos I missed the gongs too like David. No young, dark haired, coal bearing man visited either, sadly. All the best for 2009.

We enjoyed the early evening firework display from the local RAF mess and watched the fireworks display at the Millenium Wheel in London live on TV just after midnight. The display that followed from the RAF officer's mess was an unexpected bonus.
Although the sun didn't shine here Paul and I took Jasper for a walk across the fields. The ground was frozen solid but the winter wheat has sprouted and created a green haze. We only saw one kite gliding across the fields although the garden has been alive with smaller birds looking for food and water.
My sweet pea seeds have been soaking for at least 48 hours, I intend to sow them this weekend and keep them in the greenhouse. If the mice leave them alone I hope to have a healthy display this summer.
I suspect several plants will not survive this winter's low temperatures but I am looking forward to gardening in 2009 and hope all our plans will come to fruition.

Tall dark and handsome man first footing - sadly not. I have to bring the lump of coal in myself as people think I am mad. It is interesting that the dark stranger visit is an ancient hangover from our Saxon/Viking invasion days.
Happy New Year Xela.
