How our hearts go out to Arlene and hubby after the loss of Merlin…..as we had to say goodbye to our darling Finn yesterday too. He had been ailing since Xmas and couldn’t go on anymore. How devastating it is and even though he was 12years old, he always seemed like a little boy.

Sleep tight now my darling and dream of your Spanish hills.

How devastating for you Janey, we know it will one day happen but it's still a shock to the system, it goes to show just how much they mean to us. They're just so happy to be with us all the time whatever we're doing. They give so much and ask so little. Your life will have a big empty space in it now, an awful feeling. Our time together with our beloved pet is so short so I make a point of reminding myself how very lucky and honoured I am to wake and see another day with him. I so wish that I could find the words that would ease your grief but only time will heal. We;ll be thinking of you.

Don't ask me why Janey but since we lost our dear little Toddy I'm always reminded of him when the signature tune to The Archers' comes on the radio. Now I'll be reminded of finn whenever I listen to 'Rodriguez Guitar Concerto' a pice that always reminds me of the Spanish hinterland..

RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
Author unknown.

Oh Janey....I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. I'm sending lots of hugs your way. :o( ((((((((((hugs))))))))))))

12 Mar, 2010

because of the pain it's tempting to say never again, no more pets, but we all know deep down that life would have less meaning without them, better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all. I remember reading that when a Welsh farmer lost his collie, he carried it all the way along their daily walk....I can identify with that.

O No :( How awful 2 here of another loved Pet passing away :( Big Hugs 2 ease your pain Janey your in my thoughts Jacxxx

Thank you all so much...I feel very honoured to be part of such a wonderful GoY family......your comments mean so much,..we were hoping Finn would have had more time, but with two months of vets treatment and then kidney failure, we knew it was time to say goodbye. He is buried in the garden which he loved and we have planted a Cordyline variegata for him....it is in the warmest spot.

Thank you Piersdad I am going to copy the piece you sent....it is very moving and what we would all hope to think.....

Carole, I know you are still getting over the loss of your lovely Polly, soon be Spring again...and we can look forward to sun and flowers.....Finn will always be in the garden with me and Ian......

XXX

What a good idea to choose a sunny special place for Finn in the garden... a little reminder of warmer Spain... and a Cordyline variegata for him... Yes, he'll always be with you in the garden. xxx

Janey how sad, its so hard to find the right words, but hope Finn & Merlin are resting together, all my thoughts are with you both. xx

So many of us have been having to say "au revoir" to much loved pets lately. It is so very sad and I'm thinking of you Janey. There have been some lovely messages of condolence posted....there's nothing more I can add....except I'm so very sorry xxxxx

12 Mar, 2010

Janey, I am also relatively new to Goy, but just wanted to say how much I understand your dreadful loss, and my heart goes out to you all. In the 30 years I have been taking on rescue dogs, I have had to bear this loss 7 times, and each time is as hard as the first. They say dogs leave footprints in your heart, and they truly do. Blessings and peace go out to you my friend, I write this with tears in my eyes, and my thoughts to you and all other Goys who have gone through this heartbreaking and difficult time. Rainbow Ridge says it all. We never really lose our pets, they remain with us, just out of sight that's all.xxx

Janey I'm so sorry to read about Finn - he'll be with you when you potter about in the garden, taking comfort that he is in the sunniest spot - they say over here that the sun shines on the beautiful and your Finn was just that.

18 Mar, 2010

Thank you Terry for your kind words, we are missing him very much.....X

He was such a lovely boy Linda, and we have just come home from visiting our old Spanish place and the hills Finn loved so much. It was our first visit back after 6 years and everything looked great especially the trees we planted which are huge now.....:))

29 Jan, 2013

Do you wish you were still there Janey? Did you take any pics?:-)

29 Jan, 2013

Hi Ba, yes in a way we do.....for the climate, and wildness, but as you know Spain is deeply in the resession and there is no work to be had in that area. When we are both retired though, we may decide to go back. I'm going to do a blog later with some pics of the area, the rock on the Costa Dorada is definitely gold!

30 Jan, 2013

I look forward to that. My husband loves Spain and the Spanish, he lived there for 6 months as part of his Uni course (he taught Spanish in a Midlands school) and we did think about buying there before he was ill. I'll show him your blog:-)
