Hello…..welcome to my winter holiday park….Barton Broads. This is me on pic no.1, mmmm…very handsome…quite a good snap that…right back to the bizz.

My family are Canada Geese…..and my job here is to crop the grass and show visitors like you, friends and family here who enjoy their winter break in the milder climes…..well usually but as we all know…this year we may as well have stayed in Canada the amount of snow there’s been here, and we could have had prime viewing positions at the Winter Olympics,…….this climate change business is no good for birds like us. Anyway enough Grousing (titter) and let me introduce you to my friends.

1) Whose a pretty boy then?…:o)))

2) A couple of pals wanting to get in on the action…..it’s weekend so they’re bored!

3) This is Tuffers….a Tufted Duck…..full of charm, great mate and all round “Good Egg”!

4) Tuffers again….a more serious shot..one for the album this…:o)

5) A little poetic licence here…..Sun through the Reeds…..aaahhhh…:o)

6) Just an acquaintance…“Coot”….a local and not too fond of us tourists, he’s looking forward to Spring when he can call his ponds his own again….:o(

7) Queen of the Broads…Lol or Mrs Mute Swan to you and me. Glides along looking down her beak at us lesser birds, but who can blame her..can be a little tetchy and not so mute in Spring when other’s offspring wish to play with hers……

8) Mrs. Mute Swan again…..a secret shot this one, I felt like the paparazzi!
but wanted to show her highness has to preen like the rest of us……:o)

9) Phil and Grant of the Broads these, the GreyLag-geese. Like to patrol the water’s looking for signs of trouble (usually causing it themselves) and generally being in control. Will be flying North soon, so we will have some fun before they do……….

10) This looks likeTuffers’ girl……having a little “me” time probably…….

11) Ah here’s Pete the Pochard. He’s a great friend, used to love travelling but prefer’s to stay all year round on his pond now….well settled……

12) Tuffers again! I reckon he’s pretending to preen himself, whilst secretly keeping an eye out for his girl floating too near Pete!

13) Aw a pretty ending….just to show Spring is round the corner and we must prepare for our long journey home. Hopefully see you in the Autumn……..:o)))

Any complaints or misrepresentations..please contact Tuffers who is our Spring/Summer park guide.

As well as all the beautiful birds I was fascinated by all the different colours/textures of the water - No.s 6 and 11 reminded me of marbled paper in old books. I'm glad your guide showed his 'arty' side with the reeds and catkins photos - lovely!!! and enjoyed his observations on his pondmates, lol.

Another fantastic blog, Janey! I loved all the "actors" too! :-) I have taken some pictures of the swans on our stretch of the river here together with a few Mallard ducks & some seagulls. I really love to watch the swans. I saw the "kids" from last year have almost shed their juvenile plumage, they look fantastic!

Thanks Lemondog and Balcony.......I think that was the first bright day we had had since Xmas, and the water birds were really enjoying the sun even though it was very cold. The swan there took off right above us, and the sound was amazing, the power of those wings just incredible! They really are beautifully regal aren't they Balcony....nice to hear you have youngsters there...is that the river Cam??
