Finding plants I'd forgotten about!

Sunday 7th September.

We were forecast rain today but instead had a lovely warm September morning, so
I decided to pull out lots of spent annuals and generally have a tidy-up. First job
was pulling out the canes of the lavateras and larkspurs and cutting back the Marguerites. What a treasure trove behind these, two self set Clematis, Wisley
Cream ready for positioning somewhere better,…….one Clematis Willy rooted off
the parent plant, …………a small pink hydrangea, Ian’s Mum, had sent early in the Summer, quite a few healthy looking verbascums, I’m hoping will flower again before Winter.

Well, it’s all looking quite nice, the Wisteria I moved and had trimmed is doing well
and the Winter Jasmine looks twice the size it was last Winter. Against the old stone wall, I tied in a really long new shoot of Climber Paul’s Scarlet which takes the height over halfway up the wall…..great! Pruning back some of the buddlejas I noticed
two clumps of variegated ivy had climbed about three foot up the wall………and the hydrangea petiolaris has doubled in height. Just checked Clematis Korean Beauty and there are small lantern flower buds showing for the first time. Have set Amy’s
Meconopsis seeds and Angels Fishing Rods seeds, hope they’ll be through before
long.

It sounds like you've been busy Janey, but I think that's the best way to be. What a nice surprise to have those self set clematis. You're lucky to have had some dry weather aswell.
All the best, Hywel.
