Poppy and the Tulips

Janey

Half past five, and the light was beginning to fade at the end of a drab, grey day. We had spent the morning cutting down the Cordyline and now there it was, a clean, sharp stump. The glass of the greenhouse, clearly visible, shining white and glaring, and beyond, green painted boards, provided the backdrop. The garden was looking it’s worst after the battering of the winter and the loss of major, structural trees and shrubs.
I poured a glass of wine and stepped out into the garden to have a last breath of cold damp air, and there peeping through the heather bracts, the first of the tiny tulips, braving the chill and lighting up the early evening like small tapers glowing bright in the dusky light. I looked across and there on the seat nearby, Poppy was watching quietly, her pretty face and soft fur blending with the old stone and greying wood of the wintered seat. I took my glass and sat with her for a few minutes, enjoying the silence until the tulips faded in the darkening twilight.

Aw thanks Sixpence...isn't it good to see a bit of colour now, however slow it comes....I'm sure that's what Pops was thinking too......

Love the tulips and Poppy, though I have to say Poppy reminds me of my childhood cat 'Splodge', that look always made me think she was plotting world domination!

Lovely pictures and Poppy that face says it all, she looks amazing. My tulips are up and glowing also Janey, they are so pretty and after all the cold and damp we have had it is good to see something coming back to life in the garden. Better weather just around the corner (hopefully)

Poppy has the sweetest kitten face, she reminds me of my Chloe, who is also a rather large girl. Nice and plump, that's my kind of cat! Your tulips are beautiful and your writing was wonderful - I really felt like I was there.

Sorry I've been so long replying, we've had a smashing few days in the Lakes. It's surprising how a few days of something different really lifts the spirits, I was down in the dumps, when I wrote this .....Lol!

Poppy has always had a mardy face, even as a baby kitten, she looked really grumpy, but she has a lovely nature, it's as if her real self is hiding inside the 'Bagpuss' exterior....:o)) Such a lot of great comments, thanks everyone, even more tulips out now, and after the happenings in Japan, I don't think I'll ever be fed up again.

She is Pam....a special girl...always in her own little world...I've only to call her and she looks in the opposite direction...Lol!

She isn't Lauram, she hides inside all the fur...planning and scheming, but never changing expression....:o)

Thanks Judy!
