Early Colour In The Foliage Garden

You may remember last autumn I planted up a new foliage garden (in my ‘Bit on the Side’). Even with cold weather and a late spring, there is colour there.

Choisya ternata ‘Sundance’ in morning sun

Pseudowintera colorata. This New Zealand shrub is happy in even quite heavy shade as long as the soil stays moist

Helleborus x sternii ‘Silver Dollar’

Farfugium japonicum ‘Argenteum’. This one has been on my ‘wants’ list for ages since I saw it growing in a garden in South America. It will gradually build up into a clump three feet across in damp shade (provided the slugs leave it alone).

I will post more photos of this area during the year but why not visit? Open Garden on Sunday 25th April and at other times by appointment.

Wish I could visit Andrew ... would love to see it up close. But for now ... that Pseudowintera is stunning and the Helleborus is just lovely. What great additions to your foliage garden.

Nice Andrew, I saw pseudowintera recently and was tempted. Now I wish I'd bought it for my damp shaded border!
