Happy Birthday Devonia

It is twenty-five years today that I moved to Devonia, my current garden.

Among the weeds, I inherited two apple trees, a few shrubs (huddled against the boundaries), a few roses covered in mildew and blackspot, some small leylandii, a huge clump of orange montbretia, mounds of bindweed and a lot of grass. I can’t blame the previous owner – he was terminally ill and he did keep the grass cut right up until he moved out.

It’s changed a bit since then!

Happy Birthday Devonia !!!

Are you planting something special to mark the day Andrew ?? !!!

6 Jul, 2009

I did think of inviting a few friends around but I'm a bit behind with the work in the garden after two weeks of Wimbledon :-( But I like the idea of planting something special to mark the occasion - I'll just have to go plant shopping or pretend one of the plants I brought back from holiday in France was deliberately intended

Birthday wishes - maybe 25 small plants would be appropriate!!

Nice to look back over those years and see the changes and as you now have your extra space Andrew I guess thats present enough for Devonia, although you probably could add a Silver Birch to your planting scheme that represents 25yrs........

6 Jul, 2009

Great minds think alike Lincslass I was just about to offer that suggestion :o) Happy 25th Devonia and Andrew and I am sure GoY will be here for many many years yet.

Have you any photos going back over the 25 years that you could let us see? I love seeing how gardens evolve.

Happy 25yrs thats quarter of a century.

6 Jul, 2009

I've only had a digital camera for less than two years. If I get any spare time (whatever that is!), I'll see if I can take photos of my old photos (if you know what I mean).

As for a celebration plant, I may buy something with 'argentea' in the name which means silver in Latin

I'm sure GOY will still be going strong in 25 years' time - but will I?!!!

You are probably 39? I am 39 too .... and 206 months :o))))
How about scanning the old photo's in? better than trying to take a photo of a photo that can get difficult unless you have a light box.

6 Jul, 2009

We've just spent months scanning all our old photos in, the results are not as good as digital photos but great to have a record so easily accessible on the computer. Maybe it's a job for the winter?

7 Jul, 2009

Yes Lily thats very true, and yes it is a job for the long winter nights, I find that if I scan in at around 600dpi the result are nearly as good as a lower fine digital photo.

7 Jul, 2009

Hate winter Nites :(

7 Jul, 2009

It's no good getting technical with me Bob, I just put 'em in and take 'em out! Mr Lily does the complicated stuff.

7 Jul, 2009

All my old pictures are transparencies, not photos

Ian - spot on mate!!!

7 Jul, 2009

We scanned them in too Andrew. I think it's a special scanner for slides and negatives but does anything else as well

7 Jul, 2009

Yes lily mine does negatives, transparencies and photo's and documents it's an Epson RX620 all-in-one but these days there are better ones on the market even with Wi-Fi fitted.
Ah Andrewr so you are 39 yrs and 204 months then :o))))

7 Jul, 2009
