Chelsea 2012

I went to Chelsea for the first time on Thurs 24th (hottest day last week).
Free tickets, Packed lunch & comfy shoes, I set off early so as to beat some of the crowd.
It got hotter & hotter & more & more crowded as the day went on, but Im glad I’ve done it even if never again!

Pics are only from my phone so apoligies for the quality.

Through the gates was the Queens bedding display.

And dominating the skyline was Diarmuid Gavins Westland Magical Garden.

No crowds yet so a pleasure to walk about.

So we went round to see the Artisan Gardens. On the way I saw this lovely hidy hole shed I would love to have in my garden.

This was the first Artisan garden we saw & I dont think any other garden at the show could beat it.
Satoyama Life

It was so calming & cool, the stones had been covered with a laquer so they always look wet.

A few more Artisan Gardens

There was some stands selling lovely things

Other Chelsea sights.

I still have my one of these, its in a bit better condition than this.

So hot the men were wearing skirts!

I wonder if some Goyers look like this. Not just green fingered but green through & through, Lol.

OK now for some Gardens

Land’s End: A Rural Muse

RBC Blue Water Garden

The Telegraph Garden

The laurent-Perrier Bicentenary Garden.

The M & G Garden

The Arthritis Research UK Garden

The Brewin Dolphin Garden (Best in show)

So annoying when people get in the way of your photos!

The World Vision Garden.
In the box at the front of the photo was some seeds for the Lupins at the front. I managed to get a few packs so if anyone is intrested let me know :-)

A Celebration of Caravanning Garden.

Easygrass Display

OK PoppyLover here’s Joe’s Garden…
The Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden.

For Paul

For PoppyLover

Best Alpine Garden

Whoops sorry that ones mine. I did join the Alpine Society so my Alpine gardening should get better.

Well thats it. I did take a few in the Floral Pavilion before my phone died but they are not very good as it was so crowded, sorry.

Hope you enjoyed :-)

lovely - really nice - and thanks for the gunnera picture - wow i love these things!!! I liked the cottage 12th pic down very much. The cobble waterfall, and that man who arranged the cobbles as a path - genius! the tall foxgloves are beauties - and well done to Joe Swift for his gold ~:)))))))

27 May, 2012

Your welcome Paul.
The cottage was great, so amazing how they make it look like its always been there.

27 May, 2012

it is my type of gardening wild gardens and cottages

Willi I have to come back to this blog....So much in there, so it's in my Faves. I am happy to stop at the Satoyama Life Garden....BLISS! :))

27 May, 2012

Willinilli, your photo`s are really good, some of those gardens are fantastic, I don`t like Diarmuids though, I`ve been back and studied it but I would never call it magical, only my opinion mind, lol, actually I do like the alpine garden.
I did enjoy, thankyou Willinilli...

27 May, 2012

Thanks Daylily, it was a good day.

I will put it on as a picture just for you Paul :-)

You take your time Pimp, I did putting it on here, Lol. Now I've got to do another one on my new rockery. Dont blame you for stopping there though, It was beautiful.

Thanks Lincslass, the gardens were nice. Lots of lovely planting. I'm with you on Diarmuids, maybe it would be better if you could get up there & see it!

27 May, 2012

I must, I must, I must go to Chelsea, great blog Willinilli really enjoyed all the photos - I made myself a promise to go.

27 May, 2012

Very interesting blog - thanks for sharing!

27 May, 2012

Wow some fantastic gardens there, looks like you had a great day, lovely weather for it as well.

27 May, 2012

Thanks for shareing your pics Wlli, watched it everyday on TV and wasn't very impressed, your pictures make it look far more interesting, all the telly did was keep on showing the same things.....I'm going to Gardeners World in 3 weeks never been Chelsea. A friend checked it out a few weeks ago and said tickets were £70 sounds alot was that right?

27 May, 2012

Fab blog Willinilli, and the photo's are really great. (You don't need a flash camera!) I didn't manage to follow much of Chelsea (too busy with work!) however I've really enjoyed your blog - it's given me a good insight into what I missed! Thanks x

27 May, 2012

Willi, fab photos, very different to mine! I couldnt seem to get near enough to take good ones. We probably passed each other on that day, I was the one with a face like a lobster! Lol. I had to laugh as there was a hat stall at the beginning of that long avenue and he had a queue of ladies buying sun hats @ £20. Clever man. Glad you had a good day. (tickets were £49 each.)

27 May, 2012

Kfunsters there are alot better places to go, I much prefered the Malvern show.

Thanks Sheilar, Samjp & Tracey, glad you liked the photos.

Poppylinda the tickets for Thursday were £49, I dont know about the other days. I got my ticket free so thats why I went.

Ha Grandmage I saw them hats they looked quite good but far to girly for me. I think we all had lobster faces, Lol.

27 May, 2012

Willi, love your blog on Chelsea. You did very well to get such good shots of the gardens before the crowds arrived. What time was that?? Thank you for taking the picci of the poppies for me, love em. I think I would have to agree with you and Pimp on favourite garden - Satoyama Life. I still like Joes garden. He said he took inspiration from the bridges over the Thames and the flowers represent a river running underneath. The colours are beautiful. I think everyone should go to Chelsea - just once! Even though they restrict the numbers now, it still gets very crowded, so Im not planning on going back soon either.

27 May, 2012

Willinilli you should or we should send this to the BBC ~ its far better than any of their programs! you showed the things i wanted to see, that japanese garden at the beginning is just beautiful

thank you for putting this on ~ its just fabulous

27 May, 2012

PoppyL I hoped you could see by the photos the colours of Joe's garden, they were beautiful. A lot of them colours there & a lot of grasses too. Very beautiful planting I thought even if it was surrounded by huge structures.

Thanks Sticki, sorry it took so long to put a blog on, been so busy. I've done a rockery out the front, really pleased with it :-)

27 May, 2012

pictures of the rockery next then please wnilli!! if you have time!!

i loved your pictures ~ so many lovely shots

27 May, 2012

Done Sticki ;-)

27 May, 2012

oh brilliant!! thank you!!

27 May, 2012

Thats much better than the BBC. Thank goodness for Goyers !

28 May, 2012

My thoughts exactly, and .... look! ..... there ARE flowers there afterall! ;o) So the 'boring' nature of this years' show is down to the BBC! Come on, Auntie Beeb - you can do better than this!

28 May, 2012

bjs
Bjs

Thoroughly enjoyed it, agree with Sticki you showed things Gardner's and plants people want to see,BBC spend half there time either out of the show or stuck for ages looking at enormous structures that the average person can barley relate to .Malvern is better more fun.
Thanks for sharing
B

28 May, 2012

Thanks for the tour, a good walk around : )

28 May, 2012

Great photos from your phone :o) I enjoyed them.

28 May, 2012

im so glad youve shared this willi! even better that on the tv! :)

28 May, 2012

Thanks everyone. I know what you mean, I recorded all the Chelsea programmes but I have just been flicking through them & deleting.
Glad you enjoyed my coverage, Lol.

28 May, 2012

i expect to see you behind and in front of the bbc camera next year ~ please!!

28 May, 2012

No Not BBC Sticki, BATV, im sure she must have her finger in that pie too, Lol.

28 May, 2012

I am sure you are right too!!!

28 May, 2012

Thank you Will, I enjoyed your visit. I'd love to go one day.

28 May, 2012

Well now you mention it Willi....I do have the rights for next year....and you're hired:-) I know what this show was lacking...someone who's accident prone...must try and think of someone:-) I enjoyed your tour of the show Willi, to tell the truth I found the BBC coverage a little boring. We'll make a much better fist of it next year won't we.....you can be one of the front men Willi ...... Sticki...you can look out for rude statures...that will liven it up a bit. If you think of anyone else with talent, let me know:-)

28 May, 2012

I seem to remember it was Stroller that took a like to a questionable statue!!

we have a few experts on here that could explain in depth subjects, now who is it that likes geums, cant remember?

28 May, 2012

Now look here Sticki...Stroller may have innocently taken a pic of Harry Potter... but it was you that pointed it out to her, and you who mentioned the position of his broomstick!:-)

28 May, 2012

stop making me laugh BA!! in fact im sure stroller will tell you i was one of the last to notice that!

didnt we have to stop her buying it???

28 May, 2012

Willi was trying to stuff it in her big trolley:-)

28 May, 2012

was she indeed!!!!

28 May, 2012

Oh no not you two!
I think we will do alot better job next year BA. I'll do the introducing & pick what we are going to cover. You can be head of entertainment, Sticki Catering, Michaelle can be chief landscape planner, Hywel cacti, Lulu Arts & crafts, Fran innovations, PoppyL Floral displays, Stevie interviewer, Pimp Artisan Gardens, Lil Foreign Correspondent.
Your have to help me now...

28 May, 2012

Bampy and Stevie acers, Lulu also catering, we could do with Mossy for designing and building, Meanie for all sorts of exotic plants
Stevie interviewing ~ that will be brilliant, would love to see him on stage!!

28 May, 2012

Wouldn't the Gardens look lovely Sticki. Maybe we should set up the GOY Garden Show, prizes would be, Cupcake-Silver, Victoria Sponge-Silver guilt & Gateau-Gold. Then we could have the Stckitoffee for the Garden good enough to eat! Lol.

28 May, 2012

now i like that idea!!! an edible garden!!!

28 May, 2012

Brilliant coverage of the show, better than the telly, thanks so much.....

28 May, 2012

I really did enjoy that Willinilli and feel that in spite of watching it all week on telly, I have now actually 'seen' it! :)) Agree with you about the japanese garden you saw first...so skilfull and peaceful. There is so much naturalistic planting now isn't there....I love it of course, but would prefer a bit more variety. I suppose that's why I liked Chris Beardshaw's garden very much...bit different to the rest. Joe's garden was absolutely stunning an my favourite by quite a long way, but I might have felt differently if I'd been there. Cleve West's didn't do much for me this year, although last year when I saw his 'for real' I was totally gobsmacked by it. I think I shall go and look at the internet coverage and see if I can get a good long look around all the gardens. I missed not being there this year, but with the heat I think I probably would have found the crowds unbearable. Thank you for going and sharing the pics Willinilli! :)))

29 May, 2012

Ive just had another look through your photos Willi. You got some really brilliant shots, no wonder so many Goyers liked it. I wonder what's going to happen to that lovely little caravan - 'Doris' Id love that in my garden. I could even have a few chickens in it!

29 May, 2012

Thought you would Sticki, Lol.

Thanks Dottydaisy2 :-)

Karen I think I have been spoilt looking at the gardens on Goy, although the gardens were nice at Chelsea I have seen better on here.
Hampton Court for me next year I think :-)

Thanks PoppyL. But I'm afraid Doris will be going back to the 1950's campsite she came from. Buy a shepherds hut instead I like them :-)

29 May, 2012

Willinilli thankyou so much so enjoyed your blog and fantastic photos from your phone.

I have been once.

We did the same saw everything before the crowds.

30 May, 2012

;-)

30 May, 2012

You do get about a bit, and you have done a great job of bringing the show to us, in fact I feel as if I have seen more on here than I did on the telly.

30 May, 2012

I agree with Stroller too - I feel that looking at your pic's was better than what I saw on the telly. I hasten to add that I've been really busy with work and didn't get to see much of it on the telly so am really glad that you shared your piccies with us! Thanks Willinilli :o)))

30 May, 2012

Thanks Scotkat, Stroller & Tracey :-)
Off to the Kent Garden show this Saturday, Yippee!

30 May, 2012

Great blog and yes, I will gladly be your Foreign Correspondent for next years show! Thanks for thinking of me. I shall start saving my pennies up immediately for the air fare and admission :)

30 May, 2012

Great Lil, I will check with BA Boss lady to see if you can claim for your fight & ask what flash hotel she will be putting you up in, Lol.

30 May, 2012

Thanks Willi!! I'll gladly accept the flight but hoping Pimp would offer to put me up at his home ;)))
Or for that matter, any other GoYer :)))

30 May, 2012

Im sure he will welcome you with open arms, as would all of us :-)

30 May, 2012
