Our trip to Duchy Nurseries

As we have a rather messy patch of garden that needs attention, we drove to Duchy Nurseries near Lostwithiel to try to get a few new plants to cheer it up!
It is a lovely place to visit.

Both the above views are from the coffee shop!

A lady working there was very helpful and spent a long time with us advising which plants were suitable and which weren’t.
Our plot is north facing and is quite dark and shaded.

Here are the plants we chose.

An Aucuba and a Spirea

A Pittosporum and a Pieris.

Then we went off target ( as you do when faced with such lovely plants! )

I bought 3 dainty alpines to go in a pot.

A saxifrage
A sedum
An arenaria

Then I spotted a very pretty clematis which I just couldn’t leave behind!

We had bought quite enough so it was time to head home!

The plants will really cheer up a dull part of the garden and help to hide an unattractive wall.Three out of the four plants grow quite tall which is what we wanted.

It was a really enjoyable day out.

You are just like me Chris! Can't resist plants that you were not actually looking for!
You got a good group of plants and look forward to seeing the finished area.

Great choices Chris. I’ve been instructed by a garden designer friend that I ought to buy Pittosporum for “structure” but I haven’t succumbed yet. I haven’t really got room but that doesn’t put her off!

I have a few pittosporums in the garden but lost a large tenuifolium after the winter before last. It just dried off in the middle which was such a shame as it was about 6ft tall.

Lovely buys, Chris. I’m glad you enjoyed your day out, looks a nice place to visit. Your choice of plants is really spot on, love the variety! It’s really good to hear you were given some advice by one of the staff/experts too. Such a big help!
I’m looking forward to seeing all your plants in future posts/pics!
