I promised I would put together a blog of our special holiday in Venice taken in early September to celebrate my husband Richard’s 70th birthday in August and our up and coming Ruby Wedding Anniversary on Christmas Eve. I was rather a long trip, so you might want to go and put the kettle on and make a cuppa before you begin…I did post a few photos of our hotel in an earlier blog, but here are a few more to begin with.

The red carpeted entrance

Reception.

Fishpond

The pool

This sculpture is called ‘The Flute’

Swimming pool

Keep fit any one? Not for me thank you.

Sun Loungers if you just want to be lazy.

Right, enough of the hotel, it’s time we went to Venice…

We’re going to need a boat, so off to equivalent of the the Bus Station in Venice.

A Venetian theater costume

Gondolas

The Bridge of Sighs, so named because as the prisoners passed from the courts to the prisons it was from here the prisoners got their last view of Venice.

St Mark’s Basilica

Piazza San Marco

A hotel on the canal

San Marco Square

This must be the most expensive tray of 2 Cafe Lattes ever. It was on my Bucket List to have a coffee in St Mark’s Square and listen to the Orchestra, so we did and paid the equivalent of £25 for the privilege, but worth every penny in my book, but not in my very Yorkshire husbands I may add.

The Orchestra, San Marco.

A view down the Grand Canal from one of the any bridges.

The passion for leaving padlocks with the lovers names written on them, on bridges sees to have migrated from Paris to Venice. Let’s hope the pollution problem doesn’t move here too.

A typical Venetian building

Even Venetians have to wash!

A back street the tourist rarely sees

Fast Food!

The board tells you all..

This was a photo shoot for a bridal magazine. Doesn’t she look beautiful?

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted. I promise to take you to the Islands of Murano and Burano when we’re all fully rested…that’s if you want to of course…

Thank you for sharing your trip it took me back over 40 years when I was there. It doesn't look as though its changed at all, I do remember having the best pizza ever & also the best ice-cream in the world there. At night, the air cooled & changed completely into something magical.
