So sorry I haven’t continued with my Special holiday blog as promised, but we’ve or should I say a friend and I have been really busy redecorating the lounge in preparation for Christmas. it’s now all finished except we’re waiting for new blinds and curtains, which should be here within a couple of weeks, then the new suite will finish the job. I can hardly wait The OH has grumbled all the time as he hates the disruption, but you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs. Anyway back to Venice and this time to the islands of Murano and Burano…

The famous Murano lace, beautiful but very expensive

Not the leaning tower of Piza, but very nearly lol!

A shortage of garden space means windowboxes and roof gardens are often seen.

Wall Art

A tiny Florist

A Canal side Restaurant

How else do you have goods delivered in a place with no roads?

A short boat ride takes us to the next island, Burano, famous for its handmade glass.

The orange globe is molten glass. I shouldn’t have taken this photo, but couldn’t resist…I got told off..

Isn’t this amazing all made from glass?!

A Canal View

This glass maker is making me a ring. I found it fascinating watching him turn my chosen colours of the liquid glass into the band of red, green and white, to wear on my finger.

I can honestly say I have never before seen a washing line made up of 90% Bikinis! My OH was most amused lol!!

Lunchtime

Time to go. I hope you’ve enjoyed the visit.

What very jazzy houses! They put our pastel ones in the shade don't they? Thees pics show a side of Venice you don't usually see in photos - very interesting. I wonder how often somebody falls into a canal??

I can watch the glass blower all day Julia. I'm fascinated by the whole process. Would love to see a picture of your ring. Thanks for sharing your wonderful vacation photos.

Great blog, my favorite thing to do was to walk around Veince at night, such a mysterious atmosphere. Loved dining in Venice Al fresco by the canals. Here's a tip to this kind of Venitian dining experience, before you go, check the tidal tables and do your dining at high tide.

Very colourful isn't it, thanks for sharing your holiday photo's Waddy, just what one needs on a very wet day, I enjoyed exploring with you...

Steragram: They would certainly brighten our dull skies wouldn't they? The story goes that they were painted such colours so the fishermen could spot their own homes on their way back from sea. I'm not sure how much of that is true, but it makes a nice tale. As for people falling in apparently on the Islands very few, it's mainly on Venice itself were the problem lies, and that tends to be drunken tourists!

Bathgate: Thank you. I must admit I was fascinated too hence the reason I took the photo I got into trouble for. I'll try and post a pic of the ring later.

Loosestrife2: Thank you, yes I agree a totally different atmosphere although when we did I forgot to take my camera (doh!). Not sure about dining at high tide, a bit wet around the ankles me thinks.

Linclass: Thank you, you're very welcome.Hope you're continuing to improve. ☺

Well Waddy, things get a bit odoriferous by the canals at low tide especially mid summer. Irregardless, Venice is among the most beautiful and romantic of all cities.

24 Oct, 2015

Have to say Loosestrife2, I have visited Venice at all times of the year from high summer to the depths of winter and I have never noticed the odoriferous canals you speak of. This visit was definitely going to be our last visit to the beautiful city as both my husband and I have arthritis problems and the steps and bridges are definitely not for those with mobility problems.

Waddy, I guess our noses are different. Yes, makes you wonder how those who live, especially the elderly (myself included) in cities such as Venice and other towns who have their layout with medieval defense in mind.....steep with twisting and turning streets....manage to get around.

I've never been to the islands either so enjoyed seeing your pics. I have only heard of Murano glass, never Burano tho, do they look different? I would love to see your red, green & white ring.
When I went to Venice I arrived at 2pm on a hot afternoon & it was pretty whiffy but by evening when it had cooled the air was sweet again.

Loosestrife2, I always thought I had a keen sense of smell, but perhaps only for certain aromas lol! Perhaps if you're born in these places you become accustomed to their difficulties. I'd love to visit Sicily, but I think that might prove to have the same problems. ...lots of steep twisting hills.

Greenfinger: I found quite different. Burano is much prettier and less commercialised. I'm going to post a pic of my ring later.

Loved the colourful houses, hard to imagine somewhere without roads, just water.......a very interesting blog, thanks for sharing, and the ring sounds gorgeous, a great reminder of a wonderful time spent in Venice.....

Glad you enjoyed reading the blog Dotty. My Granddaughter, Freya still can't quite understand there is a city which has canals instead of roads bless her.

I don't know about your granddaughter being confused...... I find it hard to comprehende!! Lol

Dd, think you best go to Venice for your next holiday, they do say seeing is believing :)

I quite agree GF. You'll not regret it Dotty, it's quite amazing something to difficult to describe but must be experienced.
