A room with a view

Hi all, I don’t know if other members agree with me that the garden seems to be flowering early this year. Most of my roses are in bloom and my foxgloves are out to say hello too!. We had a very warm April here in Devon this year, which has brought everything on in the garden. As my garden isn’t very big I think of it as a extra room and like to have lots of seating around it to get a different perspective. I brought the seat cushions out from their winter storage so they have had their first outing today. It was lovely in the garden a real promise of the taste of summer to come, the birds were singing and my little water feature added to the ambiance. Paul bless him! built me an arch out of pea sticks so I can now train my rose Compassion over it. This rose has the most delicious scent and was filling the air with its perfume. My pink Mum in a Million also has a lovely scent but is only just coming into bud. I lost My Dad which was a scented red to the frost this winter.

Just what I think to Olive, but I'm hope the roses will repeat flower and the bedding plants have yet to bloom.

Yes that is true, but I do not use bedding, I am all herbacious /perenials had to water tonight, hosepiped everything down, gave it a couple of hours drenching, I am so sick of no water or what little water we have had drying up as soon as it hits the deck. The wind has done quite a lot of damage to plants also. We have rain forecast for Thursday so I am keeping fingers crossed yet again, don't hold out much hope though, have had them crossed for weeks now.

What a lovely garden and you are right about the seats. You need plenty. We have also had hardly any rain so I am having to do a lot of watering. And now the wind...

I would love to have more herbaceous /perennials plants but I just don't have the room so I use bedding to help give some summer color. I have got the hose out now giving the garden a much needed drink. I think we are in for a very dry summer, I'm thinking of putting some water retaining gel under some of the plants.

It does look like summer has come early, your photos and garden are fab, and agree with you about puttng seating in different places so you can see the garden from different angles, its something I've tried to do too.

Hi Teds. Yes my flowers are out also ,very early we may have two lots this year, well you can dream can't you

Your garden is looking lovely, Teds. I love the 'wicker style' large pot, it's beautiful. I agree with you about so many plants out already as I have Roses, Aquilegias,Geraniums all in full bloom and I'm sure they weren't this time last year! I'm another member who is fed up with the lack of rain, I know many plants will cope but things like Strawberries (in a planter) and plants in pots were drooping today so, out with the garden hose, again. I shouldn't complain, at least we don't have the windy & wet weather other places are suffering with. : o ((

Lovely garden Teds, love it. the seating looks good also. Very pretty, and mine is looking quite colourful now also.

It's all looking very welcoming, Teds...your wicker seating really makes a lovely spot to relax too.

We aren't suffering too badly in the NW as there has been a fair amount of rain but I do feel for those of you who are struggling to keep everything watered; hope you aren't much longer before the rain makes its way to Devon :)

It's looking lovely Teds, I really like you basket style pot

That's looking lovely Teds! I hope you do get a second flowering, although the poor plants are confused enough already! I could happily while away an hour or three in your lovely sunny garden!

Rain and gales today again, so I'm getting resigned to everything growing horizontally, although the highlight of the day so far, is eventually finding the wee 'President' clematis that got blown clean out of its pot two days ago! It really is the worst for wear, but the other one of the pair, got it's top broken too, so I'll just nurse them both, and see what happens! I could send you some rain though!

I think your garden looks fantastic what a lovely room to sit in:)

Tanks all, it has been another lovely day here today we went for a 5 mile walk up and down dale. I'm so cream crackered the garden will have to wait until tomorrow for a drink. I will post a pic of the walk we went on :-)
