Wonderful Wisteria

This morning we drove up to Nymans Gardens, a National Trust property since 1953, 24 degree heat by noon with a slight breeze, just right.

Nymans has Wisteria growing against walls, framing windows and covers a 100ft. long pergola by the croquet lawn. Some specimens are over 100 years old.

I hope you enjoy the photos …

I can only think the pruning regime is done to a very high standard!

Thanks for looking in.

Wow, my wistetia is in its second year and looks rather puny in comparison but would like to think that in my ‘golden years’ I can enjoy a more mature wisteria!

I love to see an old gnarly wisteria ‘trunk’. Sounds like you have great weather Shirley. My daughter’s BF has just had an offer accepted on a house in Shaftesbury. Rachel will be moving there this summer! Looks like my dreamed of visits South will be happening!

Wow. Just love the trunks on some of them and the flowers are wonderful. I've got 2 in my front garden. One flowers beautiful but the other one had been neglected and allowed to come away from the wall so I had to last year cut it right back and this year it has gone straight into leaf. OH I have planted the Erysimum into the garden. 3 in the back and the other 3 in the front. Yesterday morning Tim looking out from the conservatory says, "I do like that purple one" lol. Not much of a gardener is my other half ?. Thanks again for them, they have really added a bit of colour.

Sheila, the whole of Nymans garden seemed to be scented yesterday!

Amsterdam, patience will reward you ... :o)

3d, stunning is the right word for them!

Ooh Karen, the lovely town where HOVIS filmed their famous advert on Gold Hill. Lots of places of interest in that area too. Best wishes for Rachel and her fella ... :o))

Jen, your Tim sounds very much like my OH when it comes to flowers as he confused me recently by saying he liked "that blue one"! Took me a while to realise he meant the "Bowle's Mauve" ... ha ha!

They are magnificent! Thank you Shirley.

I think my OH has colour issues: He sees mauve as blue, orange as red, pale pink is usually white to him - good thing he's not an artist!

Lincs and Stera, so pleased you enjoyed the photos.

Gf, most opticians will test for colour deficiencies using the Ishihara test. Google it for further info.

My OH has colour blindness and was a football referee ... incredible how he managed that!

Sheila, I'd never get him to an opticians, he thinks he's perfectly fine.

What a beautiful sight, the trunks themselves are magical, a good day out Shirley!

Dotty, our daughter recommends we visit Bosham soon as there are so many Wisterias in bloom in the village.

Oops! So you are, Shirley - a momentary blip - apologies.

Nymans is a lovely place to visit. The ruined house is perfect as I imagined Manderley (Rebecca). Very atmospheric.

Neighbours had a lovely Wistaria which was removed for their new extension. believe they have tried to save it. Do hope so. It was a picture.
