French Alps holiday

We have recently returned from a couple of weeks in the mountains with our Aussie family (nicknamed the Downunderlings by Steve). We hadn’t been together since our visit to Vancouver Island in 2019, so this was a very special holiday. Our daughter-in-law, Gabbi, said that being in the Alps was beyond her wildest dreams!

Luckily we had a pool, so we all swam every day. Well, Chiara, 12, and Frankie, 9, jumped in over and over again, did back flips in the water, and played all sorts of games in and out of the water which meant squealing and much giggling.

Me and Frankie by the pool

View across Lake Annecy

My print of the same view painted by Cezanne!

Mike, Gabriella, Chiara and Francesca (Gabbi is Italian by birth but has lived in Australia since she was a baby).

Our favourite bistro

Slightly out of order, but never mind. Before they left, the girls wrote us a beautiful letter – illustrated – thanking us for the wonderful holiday. I shall treasure the memories :)

What a gorgeous place with those mountain backdrops Sheila, pure heaven! The children have grown since last we saw them, what a beautiful family you have, and great to meet up and enjoy a holiday together. 2019, that's the last time I saw my downunderlings too, maybe next year..x

Thanks so much Janey, we were very lucky to find such a beautiful place. I do hope you will have the chance to meet your Downunderlings next year 🙂. (my iPad won’t let me type the word without a capital letter!) x

What a fine family! I'm glad you've had the chance to meet up again after the gap, Sheila. You made a good choice of venue - it looks stunning.

I've only seen the Alps from a distance so its is lovely to see them close up. Wonderful to combine that with a family gathering!

Thanks Sue. We were lucky to go skiing in the area many years ago, so it was brilliant to be there again. A dramatic area at any time of year, and not too hot!

A lovely blog & photos Sheila. I hope you manage to meet up again in the not too distant future. I expect you keep in touch on line, zoom ( or whatever)! Nice to see you too, your son resembles you I think. A lovely hol & memories to treasure.

Many thanks Josee. Yes, we do Zoom every few weeks, and now that should be even better having got to know each other more closely. We are trying to think of another place to meet that doesn’t involve long-haul for either family 🙂.

Sheila, thank you for sharing your wonderful Alpine holiday! It looked wonderful! I'm so pleased you had a special time with your lovely family. Just what was needed, the best medicine.
It must've been endearing for then girls to write you a most treasured letter. x
