Disappointing pacel :(

Recieved parcel from Parkers today, Echinops they are supposed to be, took these pics before taking out of parcel,

I am in process of contacting them to complain, the roots look ok but the plants themselves don’t do they?

I have never been disappointed with Parkers before and have used them quite a bit, is it just me maybe they should look like this until they are in the garden?
Will let you know what they say!

Hmmm, i've had the same experiences with them.

In my opinion their plants are often too young to be sent out.
I spent a great deal of money with them a couple of years ago and only fractions of them actually flourished.
I didn't bother to contact them, i just didn't use them again.

Worth being aware that some of the newspaper "plant offers" are actually Parkers in "disguise"..

Some while ago, a GoY member sent me a newspaper cutting, suggesting I order some plants ... I don't normally order from newspapers, but I went along with it, and spent about £12.

...but they turned out to be from Parkers and were very disappointing. I don't think the GoY member realised it was a Parkers "offer" ... so be warned ... :o(((

On reading the invoice it says at the bottom, 'Please note that nursery stock will defoliate at this time of year', i will plant them up and see what happens but i have emailed them to say that if they do NOT improve i will expect a full refund!!! getting tough in my old age! Think i will do the same as you Louise1 not use them again, although as i say i have used them in the past and been happy with the plants i got.

I don't think they should have been sent out so early either..although they are tough ones, and mine have survived too bad winters now,and are showing new growth,so they should be ok.One of my favourite plants,Sk,and they will self seed,if you leave the flowerheads on..good luck, :o)

hope your plants turn out ok.....

I think the problem of ordering by mail or on line is that you can not see the plants. However the offers, selection and convienance lure us in. I must admit I still order from these places but I am leaning towards paying garden centre prices as i too have had some problem like yours or orders just haven't arrived.
I'd give them a call.

I've been disappointed with plants from some mail order companies too. Hope your little plants do make it, SK, or that you get refunded or replacements.

Why don't you take one or two photographs of your plants and send them off to the company requesting a refund anyway. I have some echinops in my garden and they are in full leaf at the moment, admittedly not tall yet but with loads of growth.

I know mail order plants look tempting and are usually advertised as a lot cheaper in price, but I think you really get what you pay for. I like to see my plants before I buy them and choose my own. Mail order is very convenient but to me part of the pleasure of buying plants is to actually choose them yourself.

Like Mariek,I have never bought mail order either.I love the pleasure of plant shopping, but as its more convenient for a lot of people, with busy lives,it works for them. Its very disappointing to be fobbed off with second rate plants though, and I would be furious..!! Bad publicity isn't in their interests,so why do they do it ?Surely they realise, that not everyone will accept them..

Trouble is bloomer i can't cope with shopping because of Menieres disease i have (its not catching!!) so i shop online for everything, the things i get are usually good, see my flower photos, especially baskets they were all online purchases.
Will let you all know what happens!

I've not had good experiences with Parkers either so I always put their catalogue straight in the recycling when it arrives. :o((

Sorry you have no alternative,Sk,it is difficult having to cope with Menieres,as a friend of mine has it,so I truly sympathise with you,but on this occasion,I think they are out of order..Are you going to see if they grow ok first ? If not, ,I do hope they refund your money..

Someone did a blog some time ago on which companies you would recommend buying plants from. Parkers and T&M got a lot of bad press at the time

i have usually had good plants and bulbs from them . on the rare occasion things havent been good I have rung them and always had good service. mind I didnt go in shouting and the lady at the other end thanked me for that. Many of these are young plants but do grow away well.
pot them on and do take photos to show them how they have/havent progressed.
