Some of us never grow up. I could not resist the demonstators invitation to try the sweets he was trying to promote at the C&C today. It was a huge bag of old fashioned kinds of sweets. My OH chose a pot of dolly mixtures and jelly sweets. My eyes lit up when I spotted a Sherbet Fountain with a liquorice dip. I was transported back + + years to my childhood. Sorry I can’t share the sweets with you but I am willing to share the memory. We did not buy the bag because our grandchildren don’t eat this stuff – dentists cost too much – but we did enjoy our freebies. .

My mum loves liquorice. She was given a pack of old fashioned sweets for Christmas. Liquorice pipes, wheels and twists. She was in heaven, none of us like the stuff so she has them all to herself.
She used to buy us sherbet fountains and she would eat the liquorice.
I'd be like W and choose the dolly mixtures and jellies :)

Those flying saucers were my favs. They always remind me of sunny summer days :o) I didn't buy the sherbert fountains because I don't like liquorice. I used to peel the sugar layers off Liquorice Allsorts lol :o)

14 Jan, 2014

I think flying saucers are still available in some of the old fashioned sweet shops ...

14 Jan, 2014

LOL ! Good idea TT :o)

Yes, I've seen the flying saucers in a local shop, but they don't seem the same as the old ones. They've been modernised :o( It never works.

What did you buy for 7d ?

OH MY!!!!!!!! What are you doing to me????
Liquorice Torpedoes, I love them, thats another thing that goes missing when the grandchildren are grown up and therefore can shop for themselves, I often used to get an extra packet of sweets so that I didn't have to resort to pinching theirs, lol, somehow the grownups choices just do not taste the same, I have a passion for Jellytots...
Blackjacks were 4 for a 1d and that was in old money, Gobstoppers, 1d for the large ones or 2 half size ones 1d, our local shop the Flying Saucers were 2 for 1d, we were in seventh heaven when being awarded threepence for running an errand, might have to go shopping now as I haven't got any sweets in the house......
I forgot to say, one of my girls was allergic to anything red so obviously mummy had all the red Smarties (sigh)

14 Jan, 2014

You are welcome to all those, just give me a crunchie bar.

14 Jan, 2014

I love dolly mixtures ! If ever our grandaughter had any , she would definitely have to hide them from me ! lol
We have an old fashioned sweet shop in a village near us and has the full selection of sweets in the big old fashioned jars, plus sherbet and licorice sticks ! Needless to say, we don't visit it very often !

This is a great response from all you sweeties out there. Lol I am having a good old chuckle. Do you all have false teeth, you should have. Yes Snoopy they were the soft ones.

14 Jan, 2014

Was that the Fry's cream bar with the green filling,Terra?
one of my faves ..Now I am going back further here,,when sweets were rationed..did anyone ever have Cocoa and sugar, mixed together in a paper bag ? finger licking good :o)..and that sugar crystal gunk, you had weighed out in Woollies..2oz,if you were flush.., I don't remember the proper name..or how to spell it,but it sounded like Kay-lie..lemon or pink,as I remember..

14 Jan, 2014

Sorry Sandra ... I don't go back that far ..
not to the rationing days ..Lol.
And I can't remember too much about the Five Boys chocolate bar .... other than the boys in the picture on the wrapper !

14 Jan, 2014

I loved Black Jacks and Fruit salads, we have an old fashion sweet shop in our town but never been in to ask ...

14 Jan, 2014

I used to buy Fruit Salads on my way home from school - a farthing each. Then one day the shopkeeper told me - "You'll have to buy two for a ha'penny next time - farthings are finished!" What a patient man allowing me to go into his shop and spend a farthing!! (Lord - I feel like someone out of Dickens! It doesn't feel all that long ago, either. I couldn't afford a Mars Bar - they were 3d!)

14 Jan, 2014

15 Jan, 2014

Maybe had a round or two.
Who knows what goes on in the minds of these ne'er-do-wells? ;-)

15 Jan, 2014

Never mind sweeties - I just love biscuits! I only very rarely buy them, or they hardly survive the day. Plain ones, ginger ones, custard creams - you name it! I'm not a great chocolate eater, so the plain ones suit me fine. But I certainly can't eat just one! I have a great recipe for ginger fairings, but I'll only make them if there are others to share with...

15 Jan, 2014

I rarely make cakes these days.......we just eat them much too quickly

16 Jan, 2014

Chocolate orange scones, anyone?

16 Jan, 2014

I Snicker as I think of an Aero (plane) Twix Mars and the Milky way to the Galaxy far away, and a Planet of Jelly Tots with Cherry Lips and Chocolate buttons .............

16 Jan, 2014

Mmmm, Fin Carre...39p for a 100g bar.
Just in case there's a shortage I buy 10 bars at a time.
What? Well, you have to think of these things, don't you? ;-)

16 Jan, 2014
