I have had my fatsia japonica for 15 years without any problems. It is in the ground and 10 feet tall. Unfortunately It is dying. All the leaves are wilting and when i look closely at the trunk it looks as though there is small worm looking pieces growing out all over, I have no idea what these are and if there is anything I can do to save the plant. Can you please advise me.

Any holes in the leaves Lorky? Before they wilt do they turn yellow? If you could post a picture it may help someone to identify the problem

As Sarraceniac says, a photograph, particularly of the areas affected by 'small worm looking pieces' would be very useful.
