Can I trim the tops of onions that I am growing?

As a veg patch novice i wondered if there is there anyone that can advise me on what I can do with the fastest growing green tops of onions without harming the veg itself - can I trim them or tie them? They have been growing very well since I planted them at the turn of April.

Just leave them alone to grow for a while they are providing the nourishment for your onions... Cut them off and the onion will stop growing!
