The only way to stop it that I know is to cut the rhizomes with a spade. They tend to follow a straight line from the mother plant. Cut any growth on your side of the fence and they will eventually die back. You have to be more persistent than the Bamboo.

you could cut the rhizomes as kildermorie sais andwhile your there put in a bamboo membrane to diswade it from comming your way thow eventualy it will find its way in . then you just got to cut each newshoot of . i believe that bamboo will soon become such an invasive species they will stop selling it as they have in my local garden centre .
