I grew potatoes in bags last year ,i now end up with a lot of spent compost can i spread this on my borders

I reuse all my potato compost. Just a question of removing all roots, sieving through a half inch sieve, then adding fertiliser to it.
And for all the environment friendly people out there, re using compost is the most environment friendly method of all.
