Gaultheria procumbens growing conditions

As far as I know they are acid loving so if you use ericaciouc compost it should be OK. I planted one in a container because it was obviously dying in the garden, and I did not know it was acid loving at the time. I put it in multi purpose compost ia a pot and it did not recover. You learn from experience, and in our part of the world we probably have the wrong conditions.
