The crown (root) has taken the opportunity to flower. Remove these a.s.a.p. as they will drain energy from the crown and if they actually manage to flower and set seed the leaf stalks will die back. Keep picking the sticks of rhubarb and, if necessary, give to friends or turn into rhubarb and ginger jam!
