Down here in balmy Berkshire, my yucca has been growing happily for eleven years (although most years it leaves it too late to flower and the spike gets caught by the frost). If the crown is fine, I would give it a feed as a reward for surviving the winter and see how the purple leaves respond - by the end of May you should know whether to remove them or not
